Some sleek handling of a butt' 11/9/14

Went down to Newport to pick up some stuff and decided to squeeze in a bit of fish while I was there. I fished only for about 50min before I was ready to leave.

Total: 2 mini spotties at 8" and 9" and a legal 25" butt'

All fish were caught on plastics and 6lb

Lol! We'll be tackling some more butts', hopefully. Yeah, halibut only hit LCs. This was just an odd by catch. LOL!

Lol thanks Bones. I knew the title would throw some people off. I did in fact release the beauty, didn't get any pictures so you'll have to take my word for it. I was thinking about keeping it for a moment, but I didn't head down to NPH with the main intention of fishing and keeping anything. This fish was a little gift from Poseidon so it didn't feel right to slay it. I usually don't keep anything when I fish the bays but have taken mackerel when they're around.

Lol! It's funny that the fish bite when you aren't even intentionally targeting them. But, when you do they never show up.

Good work landing that flattie on light tackle. On a creature bait nonetheless! LOL. Weather is getting colder. I think the harbors are calling to me.

Thanks Don! lol no tube. I just got something a little faster for the bays. :Big Grin: A buddy of mine was telling me about that the other day. Usually when we get ready for a day trip we never do as well as we'd like, but the shorter sessions tend to crank out much better fish. Strange.

I'll give the hat idea a try next time. lol but a head full of sand doesn't sound too nice either lol.

Thanks! It's straight 6lb. I'm not too fond of retying leaders all the time. I've lost some very nice fish only fishing straight 6lb, but I get bit like mad with it. T-rigging.
