Anyone know if and when the first trout stock will be at Castaic?

Yes get that trout stocking in Cataic quick! Too many have invaded the Wood, need some stockings to go in at other lakes, thins out the crowd.

DFG website says 11/9.

Just to elaborate on fishinone's response, the 11/9/14 (Sunday) date posted on the DFG website is for the "week of 11/9/14". So, it may be planted with trout any day this week. They will never specify an exact day.

Hope this helps.

Incorrect what the website means is that it will be planted the week of the 9th, which is a Sunday. So the plant will be any day from the 10th thru the 14th.

Hope this helps!

All i need to know is when i can throw some PowerBait™ at these things.

So what day did they actually stock? Can't be driving out there for no reason.

The day they stock will be the day DFG truck pulls into the lot, backs up to the lake, and dumps the fish in ;-)

Like others said, it could be any day during that week. I say usually by Thursday they should have planted though =0) that't just a guess

Honestly I have no interest in the trout. I simply want to be there on stocking day to huck out my slide swimmer 250 and mash some big *** stripers.

Hey now you may have something there!?!? I'm going to get about 20 jars of PowerBait and mold me a swimbait out of it.

Hell I should be able to get $200 bucks per unit easy on ebay for um.

No way! That's a great idea. I bet you'll be the only one out there doing that.

What's a slide swimmer?

Unfortunately, no. I tried that, and the bass/stripers didn't even look at my Powerbait™ swimbait.

Slide swimmers don't work. You need a castaic. They sell them at Walmart for 9 dollars. They work way better than slide swimmers

Remember when nobody knew what a swim bait was?

Remember when the swim bait chuckers would pull in line, wait and pay to fish like upstanding anglers and didn't park across the street and sneak down to the dam?

Lol! There has been a wave of newbies (many that came from Castaic or DVL) at Silverwood over the last few years that have very little common sense and have caused the lake to get extremely aggressive with out of bounds fishermen. They shot themselves in the butt and have changed the way the rangers manage the lake, the lake staff are way more aggressive with policing those areas.

Yup Seal... last season TB,AA and I tried the dam swim bait chuck...

Two things we noticed... parking across the street (not paying) and when we walked the dam and by a young kid (mostly) saying hello and any luck? If we got a response? It was a mere grunt. Not my crowd!

I just go my own way anymore, back to old haunts and old patterns. I'm trying to understand and be patient with the new generation out there cause I was young once too. Patience is necessary because when the fishing gets tough the new guys go elsewhere and us old guys will be fishing the lake till we are pushing walkers up to the lakes edge.

Other thing I've noticed is the need for attention. The big fish game is different than posting a report about schoolies caught. If you post a big swimbait fish all over the internet and mention where you caught it (especially when it's a kind of out of the way "secret spot") you are inviting 50 guys to come fish elbow to elbow. I prefer a little peace and quiet and have gone back to plying the areas where fewer people fish. Yes maybe a little less activity (I still have my secrets) but a much more pleasant experience.
