A good net, a good pair of polarized glasses, good technique and plenty of patience!

Watch the shad from a distance and get an idea where they want to school up.

Choose a spot, near their preferred spot, for the net that makes use of existing structure to help guide the shad into the net when they flee.

Get a baseball sized rock and hold it in one hand.

Approach slowly and quietly and place the net slowly and quietly into position. The shad will leave.

Wait quietly, don't move around and don't move the net.

When the shad come back into their spot, pitch the rock so that it lands on the other side of them from the net.

Wait just a second for them to go into the net then pull the net straight back at you. Pulling it straight back is faster and closes the net so that they can't swim out.

If you try to chase them down with the net they have no trouble outrunning you.

Good Luck!

Tied little the rope to the rock well so you don't have to go back to the dock to get another rocks in case you miss the throw.

Real fishermen don't throw like 0bama.

Who throws in Obama on a thread about dipping shad?

The thirst is great, apparently.
