launched at 630p and made are way out to the spot and set the nets. waited till lil after dark and started pulling. one net was so heavy i thought it was on the rocks but came up with about 20 crabs in it . after about 10 pulls finally get two legals my first ever two! ended the night about 9pm cause cousin jason had to work at 4am. easly pulled up 100+ crabs and 2 legals and no shorts. kept about 15 crabs.

Nice job Andy. If I had known that you didn't hoop, I'd of taken you out years ago. Since you beat me in every fishing tournament by exactly one once, I assumed you did all the normal winter stuff.

Where do you catch snow and king crab around here? ;)

Rock crabs have some thick claws, there's some meat in the legs and a fair bit in the body but it takes some work getting it. Well worth it though. I caught a just over legal rock crab off seal beach pier on monday night. Got enough meat to make a crab soup......hmmmmm yummy.

What's the difference between a rock crab and local crab? Is there a size limit on local crab? What part of LB do you hoop?

i dont know the difference but size has to be greater then 4". always had luck getting crabs close to any rocks (breakwall, the oil islands)

Local crabs harass the out-of-town crabs and don't share the waves with them. :D

No really, rock crabs are found around here so they are "local" crabs. There are about 7 different species of Cancer crabs that are collectively called rock crabs. They differ in maximum size attained, details in shape and color, and prefered habitats.

Minimum size is four inches except dungeness crabs which is 5 and 3/4 in. You are unlikely to find any dungeness around here though.
