I've never fished irvine lake before but i'm planning on tubing the lake once they start their trout season.
I was wondering if midges work at irvine or any other flies. do people fly fish there at all??
I'd really appreciate any info!! can't wait for the season to start
thx

Yes people fly fish it. Sparkle buggers have been the best all around fly for me and of course black being a favorite color. I never tried midging it but I think the spring months would be preferred for midging. Full sink line also.

I have had great days in the past fly fishing there. Good luck!

Like Seal said by far the most popular fly I have seen work at the lake over the years is the Wholly Bugger or Sparkle. Some guys have done pretty good on small steamers when the water was gin clear. Also San Juan worms work pretty well in the pink, orange and chartruse colors. Have heard guys catching them on midging but dont quite remeber a bunch on it.
