Saw a guy using it to fish for carp didn't see him catch anything

Precision would be one thing in my opinion. Carp fishing requires lots of bait, so dropping them on the same spot will enhance your chance of catching fish. However, most of the long poles don't have a reel, so it is a bit of struggle when you hook up a biggen!

I know the Europeans use these fishing in their rivers. You don't need a ton of weight to keep the bait out in front of you that way. Also, they use all kinds of contraptions for baiting, like little cages for their corn mash. Hard to rig on a casting setup.
