Hunting Giants 6 Closing Statement... Thank You from S.W.A.T.

Hunting Giants 6 is one for the FNN history books. :Big Grin:

It was pretty much a perfect day. The weather was beautiful, the swells were manageable, the weeds were almost nonexistent and the fishing was fairly fantastic… :Razz:
Even though the fishing aspect has never been the main focus of this event, it was nice to be blessed with some epic catching. :Wink:

I will start by telling this story, like I do every year… Most of you know the story, but some may not, so I will tell it again so the new members will know the history of this event and what kind of a man Dana (Fisherman 57) was. It will also act as a reminder to those who were lucky enough to have known him, to never forget him and what he stood for.

Many years ago, Dana had a vision of turning strangers into friends by uniting them through fishing. His simple philosophy of “Family, Friends, Fun & Fishing” was embraced by fishermen of all ages and from all walks of life. Sharing their knowledge and fishing experience with each other in the name of conservation and passing their passion onto the younger generation.

The Hunting Giants Surf Fishing Event and many others, mostly in freshwater platform, were planned as a vehicle in which to bring people together for that purpose. I remember when Dana and I put together the first HG event six years ago. We had about 30 participants that showed up. What we lack in numbers was compensated for the abundant of enthusiasm of those who did join us for that first event. By the time the second HG event rolled around, we doubled the attendance and Dana and I knew that this is a one of a kind venue. It had the potential to be the biggest event of its kind, anywhere.

When Dana passed away unexpectedly, it took the wind out of my sail and plans for HG3 were put on the shelf. I honestly did not want go forward with another HG event, even at the urging of fellow S.W.A.T. and other FNN members. Then one day, I received a private message from a young lady and her dad asking me when the next Hunting Giants event will be held. They told me that they had so much fun at the first two and it was the one event they look forward to every year and that it meant a lot to them and their family. The message was sent by Kelly (City Girl) and her father, Tim (City Dad). It dawned on me while reading that message that this was what Dana had envisioned all along. I wasn’t about to let his hard work fade away and his legacy to become a distant memory. It gave me all the motivation I needed to call on my fellow S.W.A.T. members for their help to get the third HG event off the ground.

HG3, HG4 and HG5 were spectacular and the attendance numbers grew with each event.

As with previous HG events, we actually had many people, members and sponsors alike reaching out to us, asking if they can help out and/or support the event. The willingness of individuals and companies to support our cause, along with the dedication and hard work of my S.W.A.T. Brothers and Sisters, is what makes the HG events the success that you experienced.

There are many people to thank, and I will try not to miss anybody. But if I do, please forgive me and send me a reminder PM.

I want to thank all the Registered Participants that attended the event, the members and guests of the Fishing Network and their families. These events have always been about “YOU” and for “YOU.” Thank you for coming out to join us in celebration of Family, Friends, Fun & Fishing in accordance with Dana’s philosophy. I hope that everybody had a great time. I appreciate the support that you have extended to me and the S.W.A.T. Team throughout the years. I hope events such as these will motivate you to go out there to chase your dream catch and post up reports to share your experiences. :Cool:

Special thanks go out to those of you who went the “extra” mile to donate raffle prizes and contributed to the potluck. Way to “Pay it Forward.” This year, we had quite a few participants donating prizes to the raffle, everything from lures to gift cards.

How about the potluck? As usual, the food was amazing. I’m sure that we got everybody pretty well fed. Thank you to all those who contributed to the potluck… indeed, sharing is caring. :Thumbs Up:

Once again, all I needed to do was to show up on the day of the event and set it all in motion. My job was made easy, by the hard work of those who care about other people’s happiness, more than they care about their own… Thank you for “Getting it”, for “Paying it Forward” and embracing the spirit of a great Man and a great Friend. Dana’s legacy carries on in each and every one of us who choose never to forget.

We are thirty six (36) unique individuals in different walks of life, all woven together by a common thread. Thank you my S.W.A.T. Brothers and Sisters for your eternal friendship and support. :Big Grin:

It's an honor and a pleasure to have been part of another awesome Hunting Giants event. HG6 was definitely the best HG yet! My wife, Tess (Tesserz), and I went from being participants in HG2 to joining S.W.A.T. and hosting HG for the next 4 years. We are both very proud of what this event represents: "Family, Friends, Fun and Fishing" and how much it's grown over the years. Thanks to all who contributed and participated in this wonderful event. :Thumbs Up: We already can't wait for HG7 next year! :Fishing Catch:

Hey Arthur and S.W.A.T members.

What an awesome event it was once again! I brought two grand kids last year and five this year. Probably more next year since they are spreading the word amongst the cousins what a blast they had! Actually fishing was just a part of the whole experience...the food, the beach, the water, the weather, the drawing and of course the people!

We really appreciate the great effort and funds expended for HG6! Thank you guys so much!

This was my first time attending an event. I have been wanting to attend some of the freshwater events, but have been a bit apprehensive. I'm glad I pulled the trigger this time. I met some great people that made me feel welcome. Both SWAT members and participants. I learned the basics of surf fishing and I'm excited to go out and use what I learned. I also appreciate that the event centers around friends and family. I can't wait to bring my kids to the next one.

Man, what a great event. The fishing was wide open!
I saw smiles from ear to ear everywhere I turned.
I'm glad everyone was able to enjoy the day, fishing, food and company.
It seems that every year this event grows, cant wait to see what next year has in hand.

A remarkable cross-section of fish life along a that mile of So Cal beach. Cool experience for the kids. Anyone have any kind of guess on the number of species caught all together?

This was our first event. My son Lukas and I had a great time! He is still talking about it. I caught several new species during the hour before the event started as well as the hour after it ended. Nothing during the tournament. Go figure....lol. Had an amazing time and met some really neat people. It was nice to finally put names to some of the faces. Thanks allot for all your guys hard work. We will be counting down the days until next years event!!

You gave to all of us ... another great day of wonderful memories to carry forward with us throughout another year!
This was truly another fantastic HG for the books Sir!
I believe that Poseidon was not only pleased with us but that he had purposely kept his bounty in the surf for us for this very special day.... and what a blessed day it turned out to be!

I will always appreciate the fact that you have included me to be a part of your S.W.A.T. Family and that you refer to me as your Brotha and friend. Your friendship means a lot to me.
I have become a better person by following behind yours, Dana's and the rest of the S.W.A.T. Team's exemplary examples! I am ... and will always be .... honored to be S.W.A.T.

Hi Arthur:

I know I put up a HG6 post already. But I want others to know how special the HG events are (and how special you are too) and come to an event that will touch their heart so that's why I'm saying this again here!!!!!!!!!!!

Special doesn't quite do it. Perhaps unique is a good description for HG. It is a rare thing to find loving giving people who simply care about making a difference in others --Family, friends, fun and fishing -- Yup that's for sure. Mission accomplished. Big time!

Thanks again for what has become a part of our family's collective memory and will continue to be year after year:Big Grin: . The girls can't wait till next year. They especially are hoping that they can make their own difference by helping you (and the the Swat members) with anything in preparing or setup and clean up next year - me too!. Cuz we all want to give back not just participate.

The HG events are the best fishing events ever, nothing even comes close.
Thank you to Arthur and the SWAT guys and gals for making sure of that.
I've been there since the third HG event and it just gets better every year.
I will never miss one. I was one of the fortunate ones that actually met Dana, just one time.
He gave me a Team 57 shirt and he didn't even know who I was. :Cool: A good man and you guys are doing a great job of keeping his spirit alive. :Applause:

​First of all I have to apologize to my S.W.A.T. Brothers and Sisters for not being able to make this years event. It took a lot to keep me away but I had issues I needed to take care of.

I knew from several on the beach reports I was getting throughout the morning that HG-6 was on it's way to becoming another great success and then now seeing all the pictures of the participants and some of the great catches that were made it was definitely a day Arthur and all of the S.W.A.T. Family can be very proud of. I know in my heart Dana would once again have been very proud.

Congratulations to S.W.A.T., All of those who participated and congratulations to all the division winners! :Thumbs Up::Thumbs Up:

Sid, glad you liked the video! I think I have about an hours worth of raw footage all for a 4 minute clip! It took some time putting it together but I had a lot of fun doing it. Didn't know you were in Dana now. I'll keep you in mind the next time I'm in your hood :Wink:
