Well most of you know, DFG stopped stocking catfish in the local Regional Parks!!! The only catfish that are put in the Regional parks anymore are for Kids fishing derbies. Which is nice, but it does leave out a whole segment of the population who enjoy's fishing the parks in the summer time. Well the big kid fishing derby was in my home lake, La Mirada Regional this past Saturday. It was a nice derby, with a good turnout and the fish were a biting!!!!! My friend Bret with his son Gage, really enjoy fishing the parks. I taught them my famous slip bobber rig and where are all of the good spots are in the local lakes. Since I don't have any kids of my own, derby day is something I avoid. This year Bret invited his nieces and nephews to join him. Well to put it mildly they cleaned up. They won 3 out of the 4 divisions and the biggest fish overall. Good for them!!!!!!!

Sunday morning it was my turn to give the catfish a whirl. I drove by the lake a couple of times Saturday to see where everyone was set up. Most everyone who fished after the derby was set up in the deep water. They camped out there all day and all night. When I arrived Sunday morning they were still there. Fools I thought!!!!!! There isn't going to be crap there, for they would have already caught everything that was in those spots. In doing so they left the whole other half of the lake totally VACANT!!!!! I set up in one of my favorite spots, I nick named this spot the Catfish spot because I have literally caught thousands of catfish there over the years. There is two main sub spots there, one I call the box and the other I call the tire. I fire both poles into the box and within 5 minutes I caught 2 and missed 2. There Here and nobody else has caught anything yet. I then decide to cast one of my poles over in the tire area. Man I got hit so fast, I thought it was a bluegill!!!! Nope just a catfish, the next 4 cast all in the tire area resulted in more catfish!!!!! Ok I know what this means, I'M on the "MOTHERLOAD"!!!!!! Now this is when it get's to be fun, I'm now putting on a clinic on how to catch and release catfish properly!!!!! I won't bore you with small details, but I couldn't keep two rods in the water at the same time!!!!! (that's how fast they were biting) My other buddy Bruce finally got there and it was HAMMER TIME for him too!!!!!! I left at 10:30 with them still biting full speed!!!! My buddy Bruce stayed till 12 putting the wood to them the whole time. The rest of the lake was pretty quiet, except for the people fishing on both sides of us. They all did pretty good on the catfish. My final fish count was 40-50 catfish all safely C&R. I did see a lot of people talking to themselves about that stupid White guy hogging all the fish to himself!!!!! lol

^I'm sure that won't raise any eyebrows. Good job putting on a clinic. I need to get back to freshwater, but with the way that the salt has been, it's been too hard. Motivation indeed.

There were some Asians fishing, but it was mostly Whites, Blacks and Hispanics!!!! I went back this morning and caught another quick 20, but it was almost all Hispanics who were fishing there this morning. If anyone else wants to give it a try, I would recommend fishing right as the sun is coming up. The fish are still healthy and hungry, but after about 8:30 am. they all took a CAT NAP!!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up.

It's all good I know what you meant!!!!! It is funny, I've conducted my own human nature experiment on this very same subject. Most casual fishermen don't very often get into a wide open stupid bite on anything. Park Catfishing is one of the few things where it can happen to anyone, "IF THEIR IN THE RIGHT SPOT AT THE RIGHT TIME." My conclusion were, it doesn't matter what ethnic background you are, doing the RIGHT THING is how you were taught!!!!!! So I am in totally agreement with you of trying to educating others!!!!!

Yeah maybe but how much of the population do we take up. I don't agree with what the poster did either it looks like he took more than the limit or what he could eat. But hey it doesn't matter right because hes not Asian. Catfish tend to shallow their hook even with octopus hooks so if they were c&r they wouldn't catch them in the first place. People who caught "tons" of fish would eventually get bored. I get bored if I caught 10-15 fish in a few hours

I probably shouldn't bite on your comments, but what the heck. First of all I don't ever take any catfish home at all. So point 1. I took no fish home nor do I ever do. Point 2 do you think I'm anti Asian?????? That's the biggest laugh of all. My two oldest friends in the World are the Shigyo Brothers. My Buddy Bruce who I have mentioned seems like Dozens of times in my post here on FNN is Asian. My good friend Jared who post here too, me and him now official own LNL as our personal play toy. (We don't real own the lake) which you will see many posts coming this Trout season is Asian. My friend Marney who is my Carp specialist and the nicest guy in the world is Asian. I'm so Asian Friendly, I meet a gentlemen yesterday at the pond who is Asian and were now going Tuna Fishing together this Friday. I could keep going, but I think you get the point. Point 3 Since you are relatively new to FNN, you didn't see any of my old Pond Catfish Post. To put it mildly, in my neck of the woods "I AM THE KING OF THE POND CATFISH." You don't get to be king by fishing like every one else. I fish exclusively a secret rig, which 90% of the time will hook the catfish in the mouth. In the sad event that they do swallow my hook, I always just cut the line and hope for the best for the catfish. I know I'm sounding like I'm full of Crap, but there is enough people on here who know me. They know I am the "WHITE MAN who doesn't speak with a FORKED TONGUE"!!!!!!!!!!!! lol lol lol I know you're trolling, so that will be my one and only response to you!!!!!

I've never caught a catfish before, what baits work best and what pound line? Also I'm in a wheelchair, is this park handicap friendly for fishing? I hope to catch my first bass, catfish, trout this year!

Nice to hear you had a great catfish slay! What size are these fish and what bait was working? Not sure how long you have been on this site but it is best not to bring up ethnicities of other fishermen in your reports. Unfortunately there are some people who still have racism in their hearts and minds. To me we are all the same ethnicity. ..fishermen and women. That is it plain and simple? Unfortunately, to see who have issues can't be lock oof of the site....lol. Again, congratulations on a very successful trip!

I haven't check this thread in awhile, so I can now tell everyone what the final conclusions were. Well it was a nice follow up, after C&R 60 the first two days it's was a decent pick bite all the way through this mornings. I am so Catfished out I'm ready to puke!!!!!! Remember I only live 3 minutes away from this pond and I know it like the back of my hand, so that's why I was there so much. These were the catch rates from Tues of last week till today. 10,3,12,9,11,6,3,7,4 for a grand total of 125 Catfish and I am so done done and more done!!!! I'm now looking forward to catch some Yellowtail now!!!!! All fish were caught on Meal worms and a slip bobber. It's too bad the DFG doesn't stock catfish anymore in the local Regional Parks it's a whole lot of fun!!!!

Thanks Catmando, coming from you that's a great compliment!!!!! I do get a little carried away here on FNN. I found out along time ago, if you ever show weakness here, certain people will try to eat you for Breakfast!!!!!! lol

I'm sorry I didn't see your post till now. It is a very friendly park for wheelchairs, they have 6 concrete area's in good locations that are easily wheelchair accessible. The catfishing is just about done now, every time I discover a hidden batch of catfish that I C&R. Someone will come right behind me and catch them all. My suggestion is to put it on your Calendar for next Sept, and I'll personally give you a guided trip!!!!!!
