Trout straight from the hatchery usually have fin nip. Sometimes I see this fin nip in bass and I was wondering if they were released straight from the hatchery or is it a territorial thing. I usually see it in the big 8-10lb fish which are females so that doesn't make sense either

Hard for me to say but I am sure they do release bass every now and then to maintain their numbers . They could also increase size limits or decrease bag limits.
