Ron and I fished on the Amigo yesterday. What a great trip!
We met the other passengers in line and got to know them because the boat was delayed. They had stopped on fish late in the day and stayed to get their guests good fish. We decided that it was a good thing that they went the extra mile for the customers and that was born out during our trip.
Captain Mike Thompson and the crew of the Amigo are a class act. They busted hump to put us on fish and to make sure that everyone caught fish and had a good time.
Everyone climbed out of bed when the engines slowed down in the morning, the crew put the trolling rods out and the first group was up.
We didn't go far before the first troll fish hit. It was a nice dorado. Another dorado was caught on the slide, on a mackerel, by Dianne, the only lady on the trip. Jack and Dianne were the first people who we met in line the night before. Yes "Jack and Dianne" like the song. They're very nice.
We went back on the troll and the next stop was three Yellowtail on three troll rods. None were caught on the slide.
The Captain stopped on some paddies as we trolled on but nobody was home.
The next stop was a bird stop, none were caught on the troll. As we slid into the boiling fish and birds we, the boat hooked up, several were going right away.
I farmed! I had 2 splices that I had tied the night before fail. Bad knot night, I guess.
This was the longest tuna stop that I've ever been on. We didn't spend more than a few minutes in the next 4 hours without boils within casting distance of the boat. There was time to figure things out. I was able to try different things until I came up with something that worked.
I caught 7 and farmed 4 during that stop, tried out 3 lures with my Revo Inshore, took a couple breaks and still the fish were coming up.
After that we had to pull up before we got to Mexico! We made a couple stops then found a larger grade of yellowfin biting at a paddy. There were fish coming up around the boat. Not as fast as before but they were bigger. I farmed 2, these bigger ones still wanted the tiny sardines but they were being very picky. I also had my baits stolen a couple times without any notice at my end.
Most of the people on the boat weren't Tuna regulars or old hands. The crew worked with us anyway and everyone caught fish.
That's the best tuna trip that I've been on!
Here's the catch on the way home!
