July and August are 2 of my favorite months to fish Perris because ALOT of the bass head to deep water and start fattening up on Shad..

The deep water bite at Perris is one of my specialties..If you've ever read any of my reports from past years in July and August then you know that I destroy them in deep water.... And finally they are on the chew and the deep bite is in full swing!!!

Ive been monitoring the bite over the last couple weeks and following the bass to their deep water Summer haunts...and though it took a couple weeks longer than normal because we really haven't had that scorching heat wave, the bass are finally starting to stack up in the deep water and be where they should be and eating what they should be eating..

Literally over the last week things have changed dramatically...and for the better!!

I took out John and Mike on Thursday.. they said they wanted to get out and learn a couple different techniques in both shallow water and also deep water... I told them the better bite was deep but they still wanted the chance to fish shallow to get the hang of a few different techniques.
So I met them in the morning and off we went...

First plan of the day was to throw topwater baits.. So everyone starts firing in search of some aggressive topwater action.. I t didn't take long, okay my 2nd cast and I swung a solid Perris topwater bass aboard. Then the guys got into the action and they each caught a topwater bass of their own...
Then it went dry for about an hour but we kept grinding away because there was great cloud cover so I figured .."Why not?"

So we get down to the end of the long stretch and I go out a little deeper, out to about 8 ft and we had back the way we just came only throwing slightly deeper..within seconds of the turn...BOOM... Johns topwater bait gets smoked and I net a solid 4 lber.. then his very next cast BOOOM... and it gets smoked again and I net another solid bass... At that moment Mike decided to make a change to a worm and boom hes gets one on his first cast... then another a few minutes later.. Now we're rolling..

Then we finished the stretch and caught 2 more and they decided they wanted to go worm in shallow water on the dam so Off we went...

Once there we all started firing away.. I told them that the bass right now are really schooled up so once we caught one we'd probably catch more...and sure enough after about 100 yards of nothing...Boom boom boom...we put three in the boat.. then another 3-4.. although they were small it was giving the guys some much needed confidence in worming because they didn't have too much experience with it.

Then we decided to head deep.... I told them simply..."Its about to get real"!!! As we headed out to deep water.. Once there I put the troller down and BINGO...there they were right where the should be.. We instantly started getting fish after fish... Then a special one came... I look at the graph and theres about 6-7 BIG MARKS on the screen and I tell the guys to drop down....Johns bait was the first to hit bottom.. And as he tightened his line he already felt pressure and crossed its eyes... The big bass at the end of his line began to surge to the surface...As it broke water it became reality that he had a Big ONE!!! The big bass pushed back down to about 25 ft and I could see it on the graph.. then John got her turned and heading the right direction...all the way to the net... BOOM 6lber!!!!! NICE!!! High fives went around the boat and it was back to work... as we caught a couple more before we made the last move of the day...

Once there we had about 25 minutes left in the day and we caught 4 more solid 3lb bass to add to the already nice total..
The topwater bass were caught in 3-8ft of water over grass on walking baits..
The worm fish on the dam were caught on 4 inch worms in 3-10ft..
And the deep bass were caught in 35-50 ft of water on Dropshots and Spoons...

We had over 20 bass for the day..and it could have been a lot more had we went deep from the get go...

Big bass of the day was a hair under 6 lbs.. nice job John!!
