Got on the boat on 7/15 with hopes of getting some fresh tuna and yellowtail. We left a little after 9 and stopped at the bait barge. Filled up the tanks with small chovies, but no squid. We met another boat to pick up squid somewhere around Catalina, not sure which boat because I was asleep. My brother woke me up at 5:15 and said we were stopped at a paddy. I got up quickly and pinned on a live squid. As I was slowly reeling up my bait after letting it soak for a while, I got hit. It was my first ever yellowtail, so I didn't realize how quickly they can run into the kelp. I couldn't get it out of the kelp, so I just pulled until it broke off. Then shortly after, my brother hooked up and boated a fish. Then we found an area with a bunch of paddies and a couple of them went wide open for about 5-10 minutes. It was complete madness. Our boat total for 28 anglers was 102 yellowtail (on the boat they counted 133). I caught 9 and my brother caught 5. The Thunderbird is a great boat with an excellent captain and crew. http://s1317.photobucket.com/user/andyf22/slideshow/

Nice catch... Looks like the thunderbird has been on fire recently from the reports. Might have to take a trip myself.

Sweet! Congrats sounds like a great trip. Most of the Party Boats have had a great time this week, even some of the 3/4 days are getting some Yellows.

Love the 'Bird! Caught my first ever yellow aboard out at SCI. Garlic chicken burritos, Ken Wager driving. Out one day and we stumbled on a school of albacore, must have been 20 acres of puddling fish. Dropped 14 in about two hours, had to leave them biting. Good times! Great to see her back where she belongs.

Hell yes! Heard they pulled in a marlin day before yesterday. Any idea on the size of it? I'm heading out on a private charter on the thunderbird aug 8th for 1.5 day. Can't wait!!! Was a little upset about the blue fin ban, but after watching all the fish reports, screw them. Plenty of fish right here in our own back yard. Going to be an awesome year!!!
