Took my usual summer trip up the the June Loop, was nice to avoid all the crowds from the 4th of July weekend, unfortunately a lot of the places we went were hit hard and fished out mostly, lol. But nonetheless we still had a nice trip and landed some good fish!

Day 1: On our drive up, we stopped by the Owen's river to try our luck on some bass. The bite was fun, that place is loaded with little bass and bluegill. Caught them consistently till the temperature got near the triple digits then continued our journey. Arrived at the hotel, unpacked our things real quick, then it was off to hit Rush Creek before dark. Place seemed pretty fished out, caught one small brown and didn't see any others. Packed it in and hit the Gull Lake shore till dark...caught a few perch on a power worm, but no trout :Rolls Eyes:

Day 2: Stream fishing day...hit as many creeks as we could. Lee Vining, Mcgee, Sherwin...all pretty much fished out. Caught a few decent bows, a bunch of small browns, and a nice sized brookie.

Day 3: Rented a full day boat on Gull Lake. Started off trolling and ended up with our limits within the first 2 hours...all on the troll. My girlfriend also landed her PB with a 4# rainbow and got to spin the wheel (she won $20, lol). Took a lunch break and headed out later in the afternoon for some more action. Made a few passes on the troll for nada, so tried some other methods. Scratched out a few on powerbait and trout worms....along with a few perch that apparently love the berkely trout worms more than the trout do, lol. However, I couldn't just let the GF land a good sized fish without me getting one, so i pulled up a 3 pounder right before we had to take the boat in, lol.

Day 4: We loaded up the truck and headed out. Girlfriend wanted to see the Devil's Postpile, so we took the bus down and went for a hike. Shoulda brought my damn rod, that San Joaquin River was calling my name. I hadn't been down there since i was a kid and forgot how amazing it looks...

Took lots of great pics, but only a few that were fishing related...

Thanks for the report.

I am heading up the 395 on Sunday for a couple of days of fishing. I got a few questions for you if you do not mind.

One, how was the wind? I fish from a float tube and when I was up there mid June the wind was bad, especially in the afternoon.
Two, would your recommend the June Loop area? It's one of the few places I haven't fished in the Eastern Sierras.

Thanks for your replies. I am currently planning on heading up to Bridgeport Twin Lakes but I am open to suggestions. (:

From my experiences, the wind does get pretty rough sometimes in the afternoons out there. Most mornings the water is like glass though. When i was up there this week, it was dead still until the thunder clouds started forming in the afternoons.

I personally love the June Loop area...i may be a little biased since that's where i always seem to stay when i go up to the sierras....been going there ever since i was a little kid, lol. However, I've fished many places in the Eastern Sierras over the years and yes, I'd recommend you give it a shot sometime...

Looks like you guys had a great time up there even though the fishing was a little slower.

I'm looking to head up in a week or two for the first time in a very long while. I had no idea the owens river had bass in it too. Where about's were you? I'd love to check it out.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I will probably commit one day to that area next week. I hope the wind is calmer than it was last time. It was windy all day. Not very fun for a float tube fisherman or anyone for that matter. I'll report back how I did when I get back.
