Decided to do a last minute surf session before the beaches get flooded with the holiday crowd. Also wanted to see if I could nail a legal flatty for tomorrow’s family BBQ. There was more salad than I would’ve liked, but I was still able to land a few fish. To sum things up….Mission Accomplished! I got in and got out with prize in hand. Hope everyone has a fun and safe July 4th weekend!

Still on the hunt for my first legal WSB. I thought today was the day! ....NOT! I was fooled by this Leo.

I got what I came for today. Not the biggest legal, but a legal nonetheless.

A word of caution when using lip grippers on fish. Something happened to me today for the first time. As I was lifting the legal with my grippers, the fish began to flip around violently and shook off. I thought my grippers had failed, but when I went to try them a second time, they had slipped off again. Turns out there was nothing wrong with my grippers. The fish's jaw had broken in half when it was flipping around the first time. Luckily the fish was legal and went home with me. Just something to be aware of when practicing CPR.

Total Fish Count

1 Leo 36"
1 Sandie
2 Short Buts
1 Legal But 23"

When I got your "Mission Accomplished!" text this morning, I wasn't surprised. Even though you decided last minute to try to catch a legal today, something told me Poseidon would be on your side. But you didn't have to break the poor fish's jaw. :Rolls Eyes:  jk. Nice job hunny, my parents will be happy. :Thumbs Up:

Nice job J! Looks like you got to do a little pullin' there. Glad you were able to get out and nail the intended target. Looking forward to seeing you two in a few months, if not sooner. Enjoy your 4th!

good job on the legal! For talking sake, if you use the gripper for landing the fish, where you don't support all its weight when you use it, is much better for the fish. I like to pinch
they're gill plates together with my hand rather then use the grippers. this doesn't injure the fish, and makes for a much healthier release.I go from the top side down with one hand
pinching the gills, and the other holding the tail.

Mission accomplished! Nice job Brother Jason. :Thumbs Up:
I never use my Boga Grip on "any" fish I don't intend to keep. Puts too much stress on their jaws.
Hope you and Tess had a great 4th. See you soon or at the very latest, at the HG6 event. :Big Grin:

Hey Jaysuuun, I bet the family appreciated your efforts. Must have been delicious. Very cool Leo as well. Still haven't caught one of those yet. Take it easy...
