Back in the surf...

Drove up the coast today with some friends to hit surf...it's been at least a year since i've fished it, so it was time to get a fix. Brought a few different setups with me to try and target all species, since i don't get out here much. Setup the girlfriend with some sandworms to keep her busy with the perch...didn't take her too long to start reeling some in! I threw on the lucky craft to try and target those halibut that have been taunting me, havent been able to catch one yet. today was not the day for mine....the floating salad almost made me want to snap my rod in half, lol. threw on the big hammer to try and dodge the weeds, that wasn't much better. meanwhile the girlfriend is over there slaying perch after perch, and all i had to show for myself was a pile of kelp :Embarrassed:

i had enough of the skunk, so it was time to grab my heavier gear and bust out the bait to try and catch something bigger than her perch (hoping for a nice big leo or 7 gill). didn't take long before i started hooking up...turned out to be a guitarfish frenzy. i started yanking those things in one after the other...the bait wouldn't sit in the water for more than a couple minutes before i would get bit again. one of them was a PB for me...i didn't weigh or measure the thing, but he was the biggest guitarfish i've seen yet...so that was a win. i also beached my first stingray...those things fight much harder than the guitarfish, lol. anyways....we had a lot of fun, so it was a success!

Just frozen squid from Wal-Mart...I was actually getting tired of catching so many lol

Nice job out there. Salad in the surf is my number 1 pet peeve. :mad:
Those Shovelnose can really pull... their "wiggle" action mimic head shakes and have fooled me many times thinking that it was a big Halibut on the other end of the line. :Envious:

Haha thanks! Yeah everytime I go I just cannot seem to avoid the salad. Its a real shame since I dont get out to the surf that often and all I wanna do is put some time in with the lucky craft...
