Took the Kolomona out for her first offshore trip of the year with crew members BlakeB and FrankyG. We launched out of San Diego around 11pm and headed to the bait barge. They only had anchovies for sale so we took out the sabiki rigs and filled the tanks with mini mackerel that were also hanging around the bait barge. Our plan was to hit the outer banks for tuna and yellowtail. We started fishing at grey light and found some nice kelp paddys. The first one produced a nice size yellowtail that Franky lost right at the boat. The next one was loaded. We caught 3 nice ones in the 25-30 pound range a couple teen fish and lost at least a half dozen more. We trolled for a while looking for tuna but never did find any. Saw some porpoise a few times and hit a few more kelps that were either dry or had skittish yellowtail under them. Still a fun day. It's always nice to find that mother lode paddy. Thanks Blake and Frank for coming along. Hope to do it again sometime soon.

Sweet trip always nice to find a few fish early and get the pressure off before going after the big boys. I'm not a regular on the off-shore side of things, I go once or twice a year, but can someone explain or point me to the post that started the whole banana thing?

It's a pretty well held fisherman's superstition that they bring bad luck lol I think they're good luck charms on the kolo!
