Split shift at Myers Dairy 4:00am till 8:00am bringing the cows in to feed and milk and then back at 4:00pm till 8:00pm doing the same thing. Minimum wage was 1.25 hour but agricultural work was .75 and hour. Nothing like hard work and low pay to motivate ya to get an education. No regrets as it was a great lesson in life. Oh gasoline was .25 a gallon, .99 got your car into the drive in movie and a McDonalds hamburger was .15. Yip loved the farm life sowing wild oats on Friday and Saturday night and prayin' in church on Sunday for crop failure. lol

Had a paper route for the Daily Breeze in Torrance when I was in the 6th grade. I worked 7 days a week. Kept it till my senior year in high school. That taught me a lot of responsibility.

When I was 10 and lived in my country I worked in a cemetery. My job was to paint the crosses and then paint the deceased initials on the cross I was paid 25 cents for each cross. I would also fix the dirt mounds of each grave since they would get sloppy after it rained and would get paid 50 cents more for that.

Gas station attendant at Larson's Shell on 17th and Tustin avenues at 15 years old. Did it for a year then started digging trenches and moving lumber for a contractor after school and weekends. I was an apprentice carpenter by the time I was turning 17 and a journeyman by 18 1/2. The contractor took me under his wings and schooled me hard in the trades. Framed customs while going to college and remained in the trades my entire career...

when I was 14 I spent the summer picking baby's breath - that ornamental flower grew wild where we lived. Got paid .19 a bundle - unless the foreman judged your bundle to be too "whippy" i.e not dense enough with flowers in which case you got nothing. They'd toss the good bundles on the back of a truck and the whippy bundles into a pile which, mysteriously, was always gone the next day.

centipedes love hiding out in baby's breath.

Left school at 17 (earliest opportunity) and joined the Royal Navy (UK Armed Forces) - did 19 years in total (signed on for 22). Some of the best and worst days of my life. Still miss it, been a civilian for 14 years now, emigrated to the US and now support the Marines (I work in MCCS in 29 Palms - Computer nerd)

Started mowing lawns and Daily Breeze paper boy in 7th grade. The money was good, $60 a month, 7 days a week newspaper on bike, 1972.
In a month you would have enough money for a wetsuit. Mowed a guys lawn for 6 weeks in trade for a surfboard. Dishwasher/Busboy at 15.

How does one define a "Real Job" ?
Paying taxes ?

Avon is good for gals that need help staying pretty and stuff. But the good ole Fuller Brush Man can't be beat when it comes to toilet care. My mom liked Avon a lot I must say back in the day.
