I fish the Sierra Nevada's, mostly in streams and small high lakes. What would you folks suggest for a favorite spinner or small plastic bait? Thanks...

I like to use small panther martins with black bodies and gold blades, as far as small plastics i throw natural colored mini jigs like the grasshopper, brown tube with black flake and all black tubes rigged with a 1/32 lead head. I throw everything with 2lb izor xxx and a longer rod for more casting distance. With the small plastics you want to cast them out let them sink to the bottom and use a slow retrieval while bouncing the rod tip up and down, for best results add a mealworm to the minjigs for scent. good luck and hope this helps

Manther Partins

If you can find some small 1/32 ounce Mepps, those are quality as well.

Roostertail spinners, big ones 1/4 to 3/4 oz.
Joe's Flies 1/4 oz.

Thomas Bouyant cyclone's. They are a little more dense than the normal Bouyants so they will sink better in running water. Also Pistol Pete's, basically the same thing as a Joe fly. Don't know if they sell Pistol Pete's anymore we actually make are own.

Here is my old time favorite, not a spinner but a spoon caught a ton of all fresh water fish on these old dogs.44406

Old School "Super Duper's" never fail.

And my all time go to live bait "Live Crickets". And for catchin' the really big one a "Live Field Mouse" rubber banded to the hook, cast across the stream and pull it off the undercut bank into the water.

A big hunk of red worms packed on a hook is a killer for any lake or river fish.

Thomas buoyants are my favorite trout lures.. I like plain spoons the most because you can get an erratic presentation, unlike spinners which just rely on steady vibrations..

With a plain spoon, you can flutter, jig, yo-yo, and just simply reel em in.. Spoons will get you the biggest trout, dont be afraid to use the larger spoons! Watermelon is very effective.

I love how the dude asks for spinner recommendations and people start dropping spoons in.

In that case, I recommend a size 14 Elk Hair Caddis or green PowerBait™.

I was just up there, at rock creek lake, convict lake, rock creek, bishop creek, and golden trout creek. Red and gold/ red and orange was the hot ticket.
These in particular

^This. Man, how convoluted can a thread get? Live field mice? Really? In response to a question about favorite spinners? Wow.

^This. Man, how convoluted can a thread get? Live field mice? Really? In response to a question about favorite spinners? Wow.Hey just being honest. I dont care for spinners. Good for bass in spring, though. Spoons work better, always have, always will. I just like seeing people use spoons more.

But you two are more than welcome to incite an argument and flame me.

I always wanted to destroy one spinner in saltwater to see how many big perch will go after it.
