Kolo does it again - Toad yellowtail 6/16/14

Took the Kolo out for another run with crew members Blake and Frank. Our original destination was Santa Cruz Island but we opted for Catalina due to the weather. We bought squid from one of the light boats at the island, then set anchor for the night. Blake and Frank fished through the night but only a few calicos were biting. Morning came and things were pretty slow with only a couple log cuda caught. About 8 am Frank decides to play around with the surface iron and a huge yellowtail inhales it 30 feet from the boat. You can actually see it in the upper left of the video. Frank does a great job battling through kelp stringers and other obstacles and soon a 35 pound yellowtail is bleeding on the deck. We fished several more spots throughout the day and found lots of calicos and a few more barracuda but no more yellows or seabass for us. It was another great day fishing with good friends. I hope to do it again soon.

Thanks for having me on the kolo! I had a great time fishing Catalina, it was a trip I will never forgot I still have the image of when the yellow slammed my iron on the surface imprinted in my head! Can't wait to do it again!
