Took the Kolo out for another run Friday night, this time with crew members Sid and Frank. The plan was to hit some local spots for tanker white seabass. We picked up some squid from Nacho's and headed out towards a group of boats camped out on the Huntington Flats. I founds some squid marks on the meter so we set anchor for the night. The night bite was slow with only a small sand bass caught. It was looking pretty slow in the morning as well while we munched on blueberry muffins and coffee. Halfway through my coffee I got a nice hit and set the hook. I knew it was something big that was not a bat ray. I got it to the surface and Frank put the steel to the head of a 33 pound halibut, my personal best! Shortly after I got hit again and this one was smoking! I knew it was big and hoped it wasn't a bat ray. After a good battle Frank does another killer gaff job and a 45 pound seabass hits the deck! We hit a few flurries of sand bass after that but didn't see any more action on the right kind. It was nice to get some quality fish without burning a ton of fuel. Great fishing with Sid and Frank. We'll have to do it again soon!
