Out on solo mission , once again to seek out first legal this year. Arrived at AO about an hour and a half before dark. Finding flat clear warm water, very little wind, and no annoying kelp floating by or salad rolling in the surf . Excitement came on, as my first several retrieves with a perch grub came in clean . First catch on the grub ...a Mackerel !!! Now I'm thinking this is going to be the night . I tie on an LC and start working the AO down towards another fisherman. As I approach I see he is also throwing the same . Any luck I say ? Yep , caught three shorts he says down there where you were just at . They were held up together he says ...So the intel was mounting now . But was I too Late ? Had he work the whole area ? Not being sure if he had made his way to the other end of the beach, I treaded all the way down to the next point without a bite . Darkness was closing in. I turned around to rework my way back . Halfway down that same stretch , and almost too dark , a strike ! I pulled in a small short and quickly released in hopes that more were in the area , and enough light was left ? Then the very next cast after the short hook up ...slam , a head shaker type bite and drag spin'n ... I carefully worked it in to find "mission accomplished" a 26.5 " . First of the year was going home with me .

I met Mikey ( Xfactor ) the following night at the same AO only to find weeds wind and no bait . So it goes ! This weekend is setting up again for some evening sessions , and I'm determined to find my first WSB from the surf !
