Hit up brotha Ken hoping for a nice productive session. Wasn’t as productive as we woulda liked, but we got the skunk off. We each scored a Calico bass, a BSP for Ken and a Smelt for me. My Calico was a PB at 17.5in so I was happy about that. :Dancing Banana: Still searching for that +20incher. :Envious: We worked hard that day and had the wet socks to prove it LOL. Thanks for joining me my friend and thanks again for the birthday gift.

All fish released

5/23/14

I wanted to fish one of the southern beaches, but swells were up so I opted to head north. When I got there I was greeted by kelp and debris. Managed a short butt for my efforts before I decided to call it quits at 830am. Damn, way too early to go home and I didn’t want to sit in traffic so I hit up the same spot I was at last week. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see my SWAT brotha, SPDan, already there.

The surf was still weedy here, but fishable. Met up with Dan and exchanged intel before we parted temporarily in search of fish. I decided to venture out to the rocks in search of cleaner water while he decided to make the trek over Heart Attack Summit. As soon as I made it out I hooked into my first Calico bass of the morning.

And another

As I was taking that last pic I get a call from Dan giving me a report on what’s on the other side. He had just caught a short butt and lost a mystery fish that yanked the middle treble and split ring off his LC. I really didn’t feel like making the hike, but his intel had motivated me.

After some tired legs and a sweaty brow I finally get down to the spot. Fished the surf for a little bit, but again I decided to be out on the rocks where the water was crystal clear. I found a sweet spot out there that produced 4 Calico bass and my first ever Barracuda on the LC within a 30 minute window. All the Calicos ranged between 13-15inches.

No big fish today, but it was so cool to see a few of those bass shoot out at my LC like a bolt of lightning. So much fun!:Fishing Catch:

Dan, it was good fishing with you buddy. Sorry I missed your call a few times. It's difficult to hear the phone in my waterproof case with the waves breaking and all. Hope to see you on the sand again soon.

Total Fish Count - All fish released

Hi ya Brotha Jaysuuun,

You definitely had the "HOT" stix this day ... my Brotha!

"Congratulations" on your (NS) New Species ... the infamous "Barracuda" :Big Smile::Applause: and of course all of those Cali's that you slayed too! :Dancing Banana:

You were a heart welcomed surprise at the AO and I was really happy for you when you hooked up on your first Cali on the rocks ....
I was at the top of the trail and ready to crest it when I heard this loud echoing yodel from 800-ft down below me ...
"YAAA ... HOOOOOOOO"!!!!
I instantly had a huge grin on my face when I looked back towards you because I new that you had gotten rewarded with something special by Poseidon himself! :Fishing Catch:
The first of many to follow! :Thumbs Up: WTG Jason!!!

I don't believe that the Barracuda is listed on our SWAT Leader Board ... it will probably list under the exotic category (??) like the octopus perhaps. Hmmmmm.

Thanx for the great write up w/pic's my friend!

SP Dan <"))>< A.K.A. "The Danimal"!

I would probably consider the Barracuda as an exotic catch if it was caught from the "SAND", like the Octopus was. lol

A couple of nice sessions Jason... congrats on the PB Calico Bass. :Big Grin:

I almost went on a kayak mission with Jerry, Jonathan and Peter a couple weeks ago, but couldn't find the time.
You and Tess getting back out there anytime soon?

Jason,

It's always good to see my SWAT Friends getting out on the water. Here lately I've been doing my surf fishing through all of your reports. I have to say you did very well in my book, very impressive calico's and the new species on the L.C. makes for a great day.

I hope to have the opportunity of crossing paths out there some time in the near future. Great report and keep 'em coming. :Thumbs Up:

Thanks Danimal! You had an awesome day out there yourself. I'm still chasing after that bruiser Calico. I'm envious! I was surprised you made the trek over the hill. I looked back expecting to see you still fishing the surf and you were gone! LOL

I've learned not to take the competition too seriously. Surf was dirty and there was nothing biting down there. Needed to be where the fish were.

Tess and I will probably get out this weekend. Haven't decided if it's gonna be by surf or by yak. We should plan to get the S.W.A.T. Kayak Armada together soon.

Nice little session you had in SB. Don't know how you do it, but you did it......again. LOL Nice job commander.

Thanks John. You had a pretty good day out there yourself. Such a relief to get that first legal of the year out of the way doesn't it? Hope to fish with you sometime soon. Next time in the area I'll shoot you a text.

Thanks. Yes lots of Calicos being caught. I'm still waiting for a biggun!

Very nice calicos there Jason and congrats on the PB as well. I have been targeting them recently on a local rockpile and they sure are grumpy ....lol
Sometimes it's nice to target a different species when you know they are there and on the chew!
Hope you had a nice memorial day weekend with Tess and the rest of the family my friend. Take care and hopefully we will get a chance this summer to fish together!

Great job on the checkers and mini log and congrats on your PB. I got a text from Dan asking if that was me he could see in the distance and had an idea that it was actually you getting in a session out there. Looks like you guys made the most of your sessions. Way to go! Hope to run into you down there one of these days.

Dan! When Jason told me you were at that AO, it brought a smile to my face because I was happy that you two finally got a chance to fish together. Wish I was there too. Hopefully we'll be able to all share the sand soon.
