Hello FNN, it's been awhile since I have posted a report in this section. The LMB's are hanging out in the shallows so the focus has been on them for the past few weeks. Anyways, I have been getting fried on the local lakes by the recent heatwave so I decided to abate the swelter by indulging myself in some fishing accompanied with an ocean breeze. Here goes:

Destination: somewhere on the westside
Target species: any surf species (the cooling factors of the sea were the objective)

So, I arrived at my destination around 6:30 am. Parked my car and made a B-line for the surf. I have to say, when I dunked my feet in the mighty Pacific, man did that feel good. I started throwing the LC (metallic sardine) and could not get any action for about half an hour. Speaking of action, I recently switched out my hooks to Mustad size 4 trebles which seems to have impacted the action on this particular LC. When compared to the stock treble hooks, they are slightly larger, I'm talking minuscule, but they certainly have changed the action of my lure. Despite the variance, I made a few adjustments in my retrieve and was able to land this small 16 incher.

Throwing my LC just didn't feel right so I switched it up to a 1 oz Kroc spoon in green mac. Tossing the spoon allowed for extra distance which enabled me to cast into another set of breakers. Just what I needed. A large school of YFC's were present in that zone and man, it was one after another.

Typical size that day

My largest one. It was a pretty good size and I wanted to measure it but it was bleeding. So back to the water ASAP.

I finished the day off with double digit YFC's and some BSP's mixed in there as well.

Sorry about the blurred out backgrounds but there was too much going on back there. Btw, I believe the pic of me holding up the croaker is the first one of myself in it (besides avatar). So now that there's a face behind the post, if any FNN guys see me in the surf, please say hello as I would love to meet some of you on the sand. :Big Grin:

To end the post, it was a great change of scenery. Fresh or salt, I LOVE FISHIN'!!! :Thumbs Up:

Thanks Tim, I especially like the YFC's, they are gorgeous fish. The larger models also put up one helluva fight!!

WTG on the fishies. Those krocs seem to work for everyone except me.

Yes, switching out the stock LC hooks for bigger/thicker ones will definitely hinder the action of the lure.
You can switch out the hooks for stronger ones, but keep them the same size to minimize the effects it has on the lure.
Nice job on the Kroc, I haven't thrown one of those in a long time... they work.

Nice mixed bag of fish! I've up'd my hooks to Owner ST-46's #6, but I wouldn't go any bigger or thicker than that or, yes, the LC isn't gonna swim as well. Keep up the slayage!!!

Agree with everything said about the hook upgrades but I have had success using a size smaller though. Nice variety of fish!

Thanks for the kind words and advice on the hooks. I'm definitely going to have to check out the Owner St-46's.
