This a combo s/w and f/w report.

Went poke-poling along the jeddy inside Morro Bay this morning. I tried to hit it at the lowest tide which is always best for this area, but there was a "high" low tide today, so fishing was tough. I still managed several Monkey-faced eels, and a few nice sized Kelp Rockfish. I usually get some Grass Rockfish, Yellow & Black Rockfish, Chuckleheads, Cabezon and the occassional tiny Ling there. There was about a dozen Sea Otters actively feeding this morning. They were as close as 25-30 feet at times. Nice to see them making a comeback.

The day before, we hit the upper pond at Cal Poly SLO for some evening action. It was quite breezy when we arrived, perfect for reactionbait presentations. I quickly caught a healthy 12" LMB on my jerkbait and ended up catching a few more smaller ones later. My Cousin and his kids concentrated on Bluegill and ended up catching a whole mess of them.

Also did some mtn biking up there. A great place for that, too...

Those look tasty.

Remember when they tried to move a group of otters from up north, about 13 years ago?
Nearly all of them died while trying to return to their home waters, and from other causes.

FishermanStu,

You can catch fish at the upper or the lower on just about any presentation as long as the conditions are right. My Cousin said that a guy was whacking the LMB's at the upper a week before I was up there. He was using plastics, drop shot rigged. Topwater has also been working in low light conditions.

The lower pond has Red-ears in it as well as LMB's and Bluegill. It has very limited access, though. The upper is quite shallow where the lower is much deeper and usually crystal clear. The fish in the lower get more fishing pressure and are more weary.

Best to fish either in low light conditions.
