I don't consider my critters as pets but more as buddies. I have 2 retrievers, a lovebird, 7 doves, 3 cichlids in an aquarium, and two koi/goldfish ponds.

Old pud fisher, he too is a great watch dog. He is one of three dogs over the years that someone abandoned on our street and we adopted. I think they were misnamed and should have been named German Shedder Dog. I thought that my Labrador Retriever shed hair but this is the hands down winner.

Beautiful indeed. Don't see many White German Shepard's. My next door neighbor has a pure black German Shepard female that was rescued and is as aggressive as they come, well over a 100 lbs and is a fence charger.

Inner Peace

If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat your food every day and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when your loved ones
are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,

If you can conquer tension without medical help,

If you can relax without alcohol,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs……….

Then You Are Probably
The Family Dog!

And you thought I was going to get all spiritual ....

Handle every Stressful situation like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it……….
Pee on it and walk away!

In the early 1980's I had two Greyhounds and would hunt rabbits with them in the wash near Glen Helen. The rabbits never had a chance, both dogs were rescued from the race track and were sweethearts.

Those are two males killing each other. Males grab the female's head firmly in their mouth, and she generally lets him. Looks brutal, but it gets their wimmenz in the mood.

Ventral bites are an attempt to mutilate a rival male's hemipenes, rendering him unable to mate.

I've taken a line drive in the hemipenes before. Hurt like a mother.

Rendered me unable to walk for a few days, I can only imagine what a bite would do.

Perhaps one of the rarest spiders in the world...

this unidentified Aptostichus species came from a very distinct habitat type- finely eroded sediment at the base of a west-facing cliff- thorough sampling of the entire site (nearly two miles) failed to produce another specimen. Im sure there are at least two more somewhere in the vicinity, however as i failed to find an additional specimen in the entire area, the outlook for this species' survival seems bleak.

I'll try to find wandering males come fall, but if that fails, I'll have to consider this yet another doomed species of aptostichus :(

EDIT: Yay! Not bleak the slightest! This turned out to be Aptostichus atomarius the "San-bernadino hills" trapdoor spider. However as common as it is, it prefers very steep hillsides.. so collection will be difficult if I want more. The good news is males are quite easy to find!

Boy how well I know the pain. We had to put Sam the Junkyard dog down two years ago after having 14 good years of his companionship and loyalty. Wife and I said that was the last dog in our lives, too painful to lose them and six months later an abandoned GSD found us.

Well here I go again with my pups. I have a 11 year small house dog that is mix of every dog on earth, she has gave me so much happiness over the years. I found out that she has a liver tumor a few months ago and she is not looking very good today. She is going to see the vet tomorrow, I hope I don't come home with out her.

Praying for the best for you and your dog. A friend sent me this when I lost my last dog.

I've wanted all my dogs to live as long as I will but they can't, they have too many jobs to do making us the people we are and too much to teach us.

They teach us how to love and care for something.
They teach us how to be loyal and what being a friend really means.
They teach us the meaning of words like devotion, adoration and commitment.
They teach us that life HAS to include play or we're not living.
They give us an ever so small glimpse of what unconditional love really is like, as close as we're going to get to God's love on this planet.

And when they've taught us all that they can they teach us one final lesson.
That letting go does not mean to stop loving or to forget and that loss hurts terribly but it is survivable, life goes on and we are strong enough to endure.

They go on ahead of us but usually leave us in the capable paws of the next dog who we will love and who will love us and continue our education.

Good.

As many bumper stickers state, "The more I meet people, the more I love my dog."

Enjoy every moment with 'em, OPF. There's only a limited number of times that tennis ball will get fetched when you throw it. Take advantage....
