Decided i needed to wet a line after work. First cast i hooked a short halibut on a gulp jerk shad, blue/white on a drop shot rig. came unbuttoned just before it got to the surface. I had a few more bites but nothing would stay on. guess they are all full from the grunion run. didn't have much time just fished about 45 min until it got dark. I was thinking about trying a Carolina rig with the jerk shad from the beach next time i hit the surf. I fish the sand worms that way for the perch and we all know how well that works. thought maybe i could get a flatty that way as my LC's have yet to get a single bite of any kind, I know San Clemente isn't the best halibut fishing but i get them on the DS of the pier all the time so i know they are out there. One of these days I'll get out there with some of you guys to show me how its done.
