Got in line Monday with Dennis and found out that they weren't allowing launching at the main ramp but were letting boats launch at the west ramp...never launched there before, but it's a nice little ramp. Took off and headed to the spot that worked before in the ski arm, saw plenty of meter marks, and anchored in around 90-100 feet. It wasn't too long and a small schoolie hit the deck...after that, it was a slow pick on 1-2 pounders for a couple of hours...around 8, we started hearing strange high-pitched whining sounds every few minutes that seemed to come from everywhere...kind of like the sound wind makes on tight monofilament, but louder, and there wasn't any wind...couldn't think of a reasonable explanation...an hour or so later the sound quit, and we started catching a few nicer models...here's Dennis with one of the better fish of the day...

Around 11, we had a nice flurry of bites, with several doubles, including this first for me while fishing for stripers...a fish ate both our baits...we jerk-poled it in like an old-school tuna boat!

Around noon, we caught fish number 20 and headed for the west ramp...enough wind had come up from the southeast to push an enormous bunch of floating gunk from last years' fires that the rain had washed down into the ski arm that we had to go slow all the way to the ramp...didn't want to bring any of that into the water intake...I messed up an impeller once doing that...while getting the re-entry tag, I asked some questions and found out that the gunk was the reason for closing the main ramp, and that there was a military boat testing sonar that made those spooky sounds...didn't seem to bother the stripers any, though they weren't too big today.

Nice catch Stumpknicker.

I've seen those guys testing the sonar boat there before but I never heard anything special.

Nice catch Stumpknicker.

We never saw the boat, and the sound was really weird, so I was glad the man at the gate told us about it...
