Sorry for the shortage of reports from me lately... it's the direct results of the lack of fishing time. I probably hit the surf maybe twice in the last 3 months.
I think my last report was around the second week of December.

The combination of a hectic business Holiday Season, a failed out of state business venture among other things have kept me off the sand and away from my best source of stress therapy... surf fishing.

It was really hard watching my S.W.A.T. Brothers enjoying the epic Halibut bite and reading the great reports from all of you while sitting on the sidelines... put me in Coach!

Anyways, about a month ago, I was able to get out after the New Year solo for a couple of hours and was lucky enough to stick my PB (personal best) 21" Corbina on the LC. At least I put something up on the S.W.A.T. Leader Board while my other S.W.A.T. Brothers are running away with some of the other categories, lol. No worries, the year has just started and there's plenty of time to mount a come back.

I got a text from Peter (PTN), one of my S.W.A.T Brothers and Lucky Craft Pro Staffer on Saturday asking if I had retired from surf fishing. :Big Smile:

I had a small window to fish on Sunday so I asked him if he wanted to join me for a couple hours at grey light. Peter says that he was going to leave it up to me to pick a spot and he will be there. Originally, I was going to hit up Halibut Heaven, the A.O. where a few of my S.W.A.T. Brothers have been killing it from the sand and kayak for the past month and the bite still remains hot there... But I decided to head somewhere else instead. I was texting back and forth with Robert (Murrieta Angler) and he told me that one of our Southern A.O.'s was starting to heat up. Since I haven't been there in quite some time, I told Peter that's where we're going to go...

I met up with Peter and Raney (Raneman), a new S.W.A.T. Prospect at grey light and hit the surf. We were in the surf around 6:30am and back to the car by 9:00am. Conditions was great! Flat swells, clear water, not too much salad, the wind was calm, there were some bird activity and a light bait fish presence. Within minutes of stepping in the surf, we were getting bit and landing fish... mostly short Halibut, but this was a good sign... they were here!

In the waning moments of the grey light, I spotted a nice trench along the shore line and made a semi-parallel cast... Half way back, the LC stops, my rod loaded up and the head shakes begins... I told Peter that this is definitely not a short Flattie... and sure enough a couple of minutes later my first legal of the year was flopping on the sand. :Dancing Banana:

Fast forward about an hour... after a few more shorts and a couple of Perch. I was blessed with my second legal Halibut of the morning. :Thumbs Up:

Funny story: Before we started fishing, Peter, Raney and I made a bet... whoever catches the first legal Halibut gets to pick the person that will carry his fish for him. I picked Raney, and the poor guy has been lagging my catch around for the last hour.
I was going to release this next one, but felt bad for Raney so I gave him the fish. Now he had to lug around TWO legals... but I don't think he was complaining at all, lol
Thanks Raney, you're a good sport buddy.

Towards the end of the session, while we were working our way back to the car, Peter pulls a Rabbit out of the hat!
His first legal Halibut of the year is a nice 25 incher. :Big Grin:

The bad news is that not all three of us caught a legal Halibut. But the good news is that all three of us get to take home a legal Halibut. :High Five:

Peter and Raney, it was a short session but we made the best of it and did pretty darn good.

Peter, we're on the Leader Board finally! Thanks for the motivating text getting me out there, I'm far from retirement, lol
Enjoy that new Prius... I told you that you would love it. See you soon bro...

Raney, had a blast fishing with you again. Thanks for being a good sport and drag around my fish, lol.
I'll send you the S.W.A.T. Challenge List this week... have fun! :Big Grin:

Have a great Valentine's week everybody!

Commander! It's about time! Sorry to hear about Vegas, and thank you for being there for me during my tough times. Fellowship is all that I got outside of God and family.

Now to your report...like I said, 2 legals in two surf sessions equates to a 1:1 ratio of legals to outings and that is pretty darn good! There is no doubt your come back will hit with a vengeance! Love the pic of Romeo! And thank Iron Chef for inspiration on new ways to cook halibut!

Great job on Sunday and so generous of you to give Raney your second legal-doesn't surprise me at all though!

Be blessed my friend.

Arthur,

It was great fishing with you again brother :Beer Toast:. Right after you caught that first legal, we talked about how cool it would be if we all caught a legal. We were close, but I'm sure Raney didn't mind settling to taking home some dinner . I had a great time and thanks to Robert for the intel. It still amazes me to this day how crazy your fishing mojo is :Envious:. You call it luck but this many times, it's definitely a skill!

I vote that new prospects get to be "fish caddy" for the day when they get to fish with a vet, just kidding . You're reports are still top-notch and looks like you haven't even skipped a beat from fishing and putting up great reports. Lobster and halibut steaks for dinner sounds awesome, my parents decided to use half and make some spring roll with halibut.

I do love my Prius but I definitely don't drive it in hyperspeed like you do . Although I did that day before we got to fish and pushed it to see how fast and smooth it goes .

Hi Arthur:

I've been missing your reports for awhile. I knew you were dealing with some heavy duty stuff with work (been praying for you). So I am glad that you got to hit the sand and enjoy some great action:Envious:I am also relieved to see another one of you cool posts with tons of pics - ("whew , finally got my Arthur fix!":EyePop:

Funny story: Before we started fishing, Peter, Raney and I made a bet... whoever catches the first legal Halibut gets to pick the person that will carry his Halibut for him. I picked Raney, and the poor guy has been lagging my fish around for the last hour.
I was going to release this next one, but felt bad for Raney so I gave him the fish. Now he had to lag around TWO legals...

Now that's what I'm talking' about - a surf fishing servant:LOL:

Blessings my friend,

Arthur, another great report and pics. A pair of legals is a great session but just being out fishing is the cure for regaining sanity. I too have been fishing less than I would like but family and responsibilitys take priority. Right now been spending my time in the freshwater but will get out to the surf soon to try out some of my new toys!
Sorry to hear about the failed business venture. I'm sure your next venture will flourish. Hope to see you out on the water sometime soon my friend!

Hey Arthur,

It was great to finally see you in action in the surf. It was truly a pleasure to fish alongside you and Peter. Thanks for the suggestion to bury the fish, it literally took the weight off my back. I really didn't mind being your fish caddy for the day, getting to witness a great fisherman of your caliber was all worth it. This wasn't my first time playing fish caddy, there was a few times I've had to caddy for Peter.

My girlfriend and I would also like to thank you for the taco meat. She's been bugging me for the last few months to bring one home. Thanks for considering myself as a prospect, I'm looking forward to the challenge!

Brotha Arthur,

"Congrat's" :Thumbs Up: on finally tossing-in your first legal Hali catch into the SWAT Leader Board ring for the 2014 season.

A pair of legals on your first attempt ... now ... that's the ol' Wingnut that I remember! :Big Smile::Applause: WTG Brotha!

A few more sessions and you'll be traditionally leading all of us once again in the legal Hali count.
If anyone has proven to be able catch :EyePop: a crazy amount of fish .....it's been you!

Welcome back to the salt and I hope that you will be able to make it out more often, especially with your crazy work load.

I am now on the mend after three weeks of being ill and not being able to fish,
and so I hope that on my return, that the bite will still be on! :Big Grin:

Thanx Brotha Arthur for keeping up dated with your text during my time away and for this fun read with pic's!

PS .... "Congrat's" Peter on your legal and it was good to read that Raney was out there also enjoying the day with you!

Be blessed my friend.

Skunked4life, aka Corporal Croaker, aka Ken
Don't feel sorry for me Ken, I don't... Winning and losing is a normal part of life, and I've won more than I've lost.
Two legals is a decent start, but it doesn't even remotely compare to your hot start my friend. :EyePop:
Thanks for the motivation... now if only I can get out there more often to try to keep up... :Envious:

-Peter
That was a really fun morning Peter, it felt really good getting back int the surf and it felt even better with a successful session. :Big Grin:
Trust me bro... it's mostly luck.
I can't get myself to drive the Prius in normal mode, and forget about Eco mode, what a slug...
Thanks for the recon intel this morning and good luck if you head back out tomorrow. Wish I could join you but too many things on my plate right now.

Now that's what I'm talking' about - a surf fishing servant:LOL:

Blessings my friend,

Nick
Thank you Nick, your prayers are appreciated...
Hopefully, I can free myself up to get back out there again soon... or at least to start planning for HG6.

No big deal Dan... the failed business venture was just a flesh wound, lol  My pride is hurt more than anything else...
I have to try and free myself up a little bit to start planning for HG6, it will be here before you know it.
Take care and good luck out there my friend. :Big Grin:

Nice Bean Wing, as well as the butts and perch. Those fish and Lobster tails made me DROOOLLL!!!!!
Thanks man... yes, dinner was awesome! :Big Grin:

I am glad to see you finally got out Arthur, I knew they would be waiting for you. Congrats brother!
Thanks Jonathan, you've been just absolutely killing it out there bro. Legal Halibut, Yellow Tails, White Sea Bass... WOW!
Really wish I could find the time to join you, but not possible right now.
Keep it up my friend. :Envious:

-Raney
It was really fun fishing with you Raney and you are very welcome for the Halibut... sharing is caring. :Big Grin:
You now have your S.W.A.T. Challenge list... good luck and have fun my friend.

"Originally, I was going to hit up Halibut Heaven, the A.O. where a few of my S.W.A.T. Brothers have been killing it from the sand and kayak for the past month and the bite still remains hot there...:: But I decided to head somewhere else instead."

Arthur that quote is Borderline Uncoachable! Be careful....

Great report and its great to see ya back on the beaches.

WWO
Bill, there is only one "Uncoachable" member in S.W.A.T. and I think you know who that is, lol
Hope to fish with you soon... :Big Grin:

Great report good to see you posting again!

TS
Thanks Steve, hope all is well with you... I like the new Team 57 swag.

SP Dan <"))><
We are all chasing Ken Brother Dan... :Envious:
I'm glad to hear that you have made a full recovery and getting back out there again. :Big Grin:
Hope to fish with you sometime soon my friend.

Kelly
Thanks Kelly, I think we're in for a great Spring bite. Keep up the nice work out there buddy. :Big Grin:

Great report and great to hear from you again here on the network. I gotta put a tracking device on your car and find one of these "secret AO's." I've striking out for my last few outings. Nothing in site or on the bite! Congrats on those beautiful halibut.
fz
Thanks Frank, hope all is well with you. I just read your PM, been super busy, but I will respond soon, thanks.

Well done sir! I kept looking over my shoulder that morning and come around 6:00 I figured you had gone flattie hunting. You made te right choice, as always. I guess a month plus head start was more than enough. Now time to make up some ground and smoke us again? I'm sure it won't take long. Congrats on another great session and also for that monster bean!:EyePop:

Don
I don't care about the legal halibut chase this year Don... I WANT KIMBLE!!! :Envious:
Hope to fish with you again soon bro.

great report as always Wingnut.

PS: The new Prius has been recalled. Check to see if you have to return yours or not.
Thanks... yeah the recall is for a software update to prevent the car from stalling. I'll have it done with the next service.

Nice to see you back at it commander
For not fishing much in the past couple of months, it still looks like you racked in a good number of fish!
Congrats on your first legals of 2014 and PB corbina! I know there will be plenty more to come.. just how many is the real question

-Daniel
Where have you been Daniel??? You better get out there with Thien and help get him his Induction fish! LOL
Good luck out there always... :Big Grin:
