Capt'n invited me to fish with him on Saturday. I told him that I got new boats seats and wanted to try them out, so we went in my boat.

Thanks for the invite Scott! I do appreciate it.

I invited DosIsDead (Oliver) to fish with us. We met at Gallio'ns Market and picked up bloodworms and nightcrawlers. I already had sardines that I got from Gallion's the other day and Scott brought some too.

We talked to BassFan in line and met his sister. We looked for Dan and Lulu but didn't find them. I really look forward to standing around in the middle of the night talking about fishing now!

We went out to the spot where I got into them last time but the clouds of fish that I like to fish in weren't there. We metered around and found them a couple hundred yards away.

We set anchor and had fish under us constantly but only picked up a few fish on really tentative bites.

For awhile I was sitting around watching Scott and Oliver catch fish. I was thinking that I would be official "Net Boy".

I finally got a fish at about 9:30. I think this is my second fish a few minutes later. It was a little bigger but still pretty small. I wanted to have some pictures for this post though.

Scott predicted that at 10:00 the wind would blow and at 10:06, it did! It blew the front anchor loose and blew us out over another group of striper that bit even more slowly.

After giving them a try we re-anchored and things started to look up. The fish were hitting harder and holding on, at least for Oliver and me.

Scott was farmer of the day! He put up with the ribbing with a smile but he's really not used to being the farmer. I guess he needed the practice.

I finally got a good pickup on a bloodworm and landed a nice 4.8 lb fish. You can see one of my new seats there.

Scott wanted a fish that he could take a picture with! It's a small boat. He couldn't escape!

After the unintended move we had some pretty good action. We weren't more than a few feet from where we started, so I think that the time of day was key to the bite.

We got our limits and threw some smaller ones back, then picked through what seemed to be those same fish to get some just a little bigger.

Oliver wanted to make sure that he didn't take a picture with fish that he didn't catch but he caught some of the medium ones too.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq265/fishinone/1-5-2014%20Castaic%20with%20Oliver%20and%20Scott/20140125_161348_zps02cf6193.jpg (http://s454.photobucket.com/user/fishinone/media/1-5-2014%20Castaic%20with%20Oliver%20and%20Scott/20140125_161348_zps02cf6193.jpg.html)
Now Scott on the other hand, totally deserves his picture!

I was just lucky! It was one of those days. I caught all of the big fish but, can I really take credit for which fish decided to grab my baits?

Yes! Of course I can! :Big Grin:

We had great time on Saturday. We pulled out a little early and got to the ramp with time to take these last pictures.

Limit's around!

Thanks guys for fishing with me. You're great company!

That's a great day of fishing...thanks for the report...did they hit bloodworms only or did the other baits work as well? The new seats look nice...I replaced mine a while back, and they're an investment that keeps giving. Every time you go out now you'll be glad you got them, especially if the old ones were trashed like mine were.

They hit bloodworms and nightcrawlers equally well but the sardines weren't as well liked. Many of the bigger ones were caught on the sardines though.

My old seat was a 94 quart cooler. There were no backrests so at the end of the day my back was wasted.

Way to go out there, were you using a high low set up with the sardine?

.What's a high low setup?

We were using 1/8 ounce sliding sinkers with 18 to 30 inch 6 lb flouro leaders. We set the depth according to the fish finder.

Ron,
That last photo looks familiar. It looks like the same fish from last week! :)
The only way to tell the difference is is you have more people on the boat as you always have (# ppl X 10 fish)
I got photo bucket now, so I can share my photos. The uploader just doesn't work anymore.

It would save time to use the same photos over and over.

Where do I start?
Ron, as always I had a great time fishing with you, Oliver fit right in, and there were lots of laughs.

Now as far as the fishing, I should have stayed home. It was just one of those days, and you never let me forget it. I do think the overalls were a bit much though. :Farmer:

Beautiful day, decent fishing, and lots of laughs..........and I caught first fish!

But wait till next week........

Another great day! Its no accident when they find their way to your bait. You out-fish just about anybody on board with you every time.
Week in and week out you find them and catch them. I'm sure your picture on a "Wanted" poster in the Striperville Post Office.

Hey guys:

I'm heading to Castaic on Monday to try some bait 'n wait from my boat, which I've never been very good at. Here are a few questions which I'd be much obliged if anyone could answer. Thanks!

Nightcrawlers: whole or half? Owner size 2 Mosquito hook OK?

Bloodworms: never used 'em before. Do you pinch off a certain length of them? What type of hook? Hook 'em in middle or at one end?

When guys talk about fishing sardine chunks on the bottom, do you really mean on the bottom (as if shore fishing), or hanging straight down just off the bottom?

Thanks again! I'll share my results on Monday.

Sardine chunks carolina rigged both on the bottom and a few cranks up...also flylined...I use whole nightcrawlers until they're bit in half, then find out if they'll eat a half crawler...if not, put on another whole one...I use small hooks...no bigger than #4...
