Brettboob and I decided to get out of our comfort zone this past weekend and try some new AO's as well as new tatics. Some were rewarding and some were complete faliures, overall an amazing weekend of angling.

Started off saturday fishing king harbor with hopes of bonito or bass. For the past year or so I've been dreaming of catching bonito on hardbait. I convinced Brett to tag along.

Got the skunk hard! Saw a couple monster bass hanging out in the kelp but they didn't want anything to do with us. We ended up entertaining ourselves watching all the giant garibaldi swimming around. After cutting our losses we headed over to the fish market to enjoy some fresh tuna poke and beer, man was that delicious!

After lunch we decided to find some rocks and try to crack into some cabezon.

Brett got the skunk off first with a real nice rockfish.

Real nice 15 incher.

Then we found a nice hole and it was wide open till sunset.

Ended the night with 12 rockfish and 8 cabezon. All released.

After sleeping about 6 hours we started the fun right back up sunday morning... After a quick game plan meeting over some coffee we decided to try a beach that neither one of us had been to for over a year. The mighty DOCKWEILER! Wow what a interesting beach...(i'm not talking about the fish...)

I had Brett give me his OG pose.

Saw some excellent halibut structure but for no bites....

We did find a first though...

The real chicken of the sea! I'm assuming that someones bbq supply ran off and didn't make it long...Yes people that's a freakin chicken! gotta love dockweiler. Dockweiler gave me the skunk but Brett scraped off a couple perch and a nice 21 inch bean on the LC!

Called it a day shortly after that. Pretty fun weekend, thanks for reading!

Cheers.

Excellent report dude! That corb is massive!!!

KH is not too tough to figure out, but if you want quality fish I can't help you much lol. The biggest fish are at the outer wall, but it can be very hairy to fish out there at times.

Were the grass bass and Cabezon from King Harbor?

I actually caught more rockfish and cabbies that evening from the shore than I ever have on a boat! Pretty crazy, especially with a closure in effect.
