Today was day one of the Martin Luther King Jr Trohpy Trout Tournament and today was a GREAT day for anglers that showed up to the lake. Temperatures hovered in the mid 70's with little to no wind all day! A very nice turnout for the tournament with 187 anglers entering the big fish side pot and 154anglers entering the blind bogie. On behalf of Daniela, myself and the staff we would like to thank you guys for participating in the derby today. We really appreciate all the support you guys have been showing out derbys and we would just like to reconize you guys and gals. To the fishing.
Fishing was once again really good with the fish being caught on a variety of methods so I will kind of break it down by different statgies that way everyone can get the inside scoop on their prefered method.

Trollers did very well today and the past few days as you can tell from the pictures on our website, facebook and on here. The fish have been all over the lake with mid lake, the Red Clay Cliffs, Siera Cove and the West Shore being the hot spots. The fish have really keyed in on the abundant baitfish in the lake (silversides, shad, and sculpins). Anglers trolling the new 5cm Hot Pink Berkley Flickershad found a lot of success. The first double digit Trout that we know was caught on it today by Steve Christopher with his HUGE 10.35 Rainbow Trout.

Other hot colors included the Firetigers, Chrome Clowns, and Racy Shad colors. Trolling one of the Flickershads and a SC Shiner or CD 05 Rapala has been very productive. It gives the fish a little different look in the pattern and a different profile.

Plastic fisherman scored as well today and yesterday. No big suprise the Berkley Mice Tails dipped in an attractant such as Bite On Garlic, Garilc Alive Gulp Spray or isert your favorite attractant. A lot of these guys are simply casting it out and waiting for the bite. Or you can "stitch: a la Bill Murhpy style and work these deadly soft plastic back to the shore or boat. Anglers fishing minnow styled imitations such as the Mijos Minnow and Trout King minnows have also been doing very well fishing these baitfish imitations, have you guys noticed the fish are on the bait yet, have been knocking the fish dead! A lot of guys are fishing these plastics on pea heads and working them back like a mini jig or are fishing them on a dropshot.

Bait fisherman have also been getting in on the big fish and numbers. Fishing has been really good in the Santiago Flats, Red Clay Cliffs and West Shore. Anglers are fishing various colored powerbaits on 18in leaders and scoring very well. Nightcrawlers have also been accounting for a ton of fish too. Fishing them either on a carloina rig, bobber style or even flyline (shhhh its a secret) have been the preferred methods.

On to the big fish parade and tournament results from today:

Taper Steve Critstopher of Pacioma is all smiles after landing this 10.35lb Rainbow Trout while trolling the NEW Berkley Frenzy Flickershad in 5cm Hot Pink Pattern. Unfortunatly for Steve he failed to enter the big fish side pot! What could have been a $300 pay day!!!! Next time Steve.
