Locking into some bonito on the hardbait has been on my bucket list for some time. Anybody know if any are still around?? Trying to plan an outing this weekend but dont know if it'll be a waste of time. I understand the best way to find out is getting out and trying for myself but I thought i'd just try and see if anyone had any info they wouldnt mind sharing...

Cheers!

Try going on BD there's plenty of guys who are still targeting the fish. From what I've read, live anchovies are the way to go.

Very wall grade from what I hear. 12" - 14" babies.

The bones are there, but they are very keyed-in on live bait. I have been several times this year, and gotten a handful each time on small hardbaits and a couple on fly. The schools are roaming around, so the bite is far from wide open. You just have to be there when they come through. These are not large by any means, but they are getting a little bigger. I took my son out this past weekend and got several that were over 2lbs. For him, these were his first saltwater fish ever. He had a blast on the 6lb spinning tackle.

I've caught some bonito not in King Harbor but in Marina del Rey around the Mother's Beach area and I've seen small groups of them swimming between the docks. They're definitely here in the harbors and bays. I've had luck catching them on 3' big hammer swimbaits on weedless slayer heads(Sexy Smelt color for the swimbait tail and sexydine for the head color). I've also caught a couple of them recently on spoons. Anything with any sort of flash or metallic look to it will do the job.
