So I've been reading everyone's reports lately and I was itchin for some action myself. So I head out to the AO. I get about halfway when I realize it's a new year and I need a new license. So I head to the nearest Walmart and get my fix. I reach the surf and the swells are down so I'm pretty excited about the conditions. Having only fished the LC for about 8 hrs total and having caught only a dozen or so fish on the LC I'm not very confident in my retrieve, but I see the damage it can do so I'm determined to learn the art. Conditions were perfect and I was really able to focus on my retrieve. 15 min into the session I hook up with this little guy.

Over the next 30 min I caught the following:

NEW SPECIES on the LC!

I also caught a few perch but they weren't photo worthy. After that session I am confident in my retrieve. Now I just need to find the legals!

Congrats on the bean with an LC... that's hard to do. Those torpedos suck... they get really annoying after awhile because they get hooked before anything else can, and they're abundant! Croakers ae kind of the same way, but at least they are a good fight. The SNGF... now that's a fun one to catch because they run so fast. It's always exciting to see your light peel off as your reel is singing! Congrats again and looks to be a good start of a good year for you.

Thanks. That torpedo was a blast to reel in though. He kept jumping 2 ft out of the water.

The top fish is a yellow fin croaker not corbina.

Well, that's just one more for me to conquer later! I guess the purple iridescence and black tail threw me for a loop.

Great job. Just picked me up a couple LC's this last weekend and am extremely anxious to try them out.

Steve right? I can't remember...

Yeah I remember seeing you at that AO a few months ago. How the heck are you doing? I just ran into Robert this weekend and thought about you. Glad to see that you made it out again soldier! Great job on the "new" species. I do not know enough about corbs to identify that first one but the black tail would have fooled me too!

Keep at it and looking forward to more reports from you!

DAMNED POSERS! It's a croaker, but it's also a HECK of a lot better than a skunk. And they put up a nice fight, pound for pound, especially when they start pushing the size of that last one. That's all that matters in the long run...something to pull on. Looks like you got a nice mixed bag to boot. Nice work and looking forward to hearing more soon!

It is in fact Steve. I'm doing well! I have a 4 month old who has had my attention but I've been dying to hit the surf. I need to find the Hali's.

Hey Steve,
Congrats on a nice day of fishing..
I was thinking about you the other day.
I friend of mine let me use his spear gun, but I didn't have the time to get out...
Work is mellowing out a little for me, so if you can do a weekday session, let me know...
