casting rods?

shimano reels cardiff $100 or corvalus $60-70

if spinning Sahara 2500 $60 or Sedona 2500 $50

i think are good for the money

Surf fishing and spinning reels: go cheap.

Once you get some saltwater and sand in them (e.g. wading in the waves), they are FUBAR in my experience...unless you have nothing but time on your hands to take them apart every trip.

i had a penn captiva once for surf fishing, tough reel. never cleaned it or anything. it took a night in the drink to take it out of comission. its not shimano but its a good reel

I totally agree with Rich......... they're are some very nice reels out there for the money, but sooner or later, they'll probably get a saltwater bath... go inexpensive ........ I use Shimano Sidestab's...... about 30.00 bucks.
