I have a few in mind right now, but would like to know which ones you all are using and/or recommend before I make my final decision. If you could list the pro's and cons about them, that would be appreciated also.

Hey bassman this is what I would use on a tube......

http://www.boatersland.com/cuda168.html

The way I see it this model has everything you will need....it shows wter temp, depth and is easy on the pockets!!!! I would hate to spend several hundred dollars on a fancy unit to have it lost to the fishing Gods!!!! Plus you can find this unit at Walmart for under $50!!!!

i have had this fish finder for over a year and it is a great unit. The only complaint I have head from others is that the screen is small but I think it is fine.

Yeah the 168 is one of the ones I had in mind because of the price. Plus I've read some very good reviews about it. There used to be a 168EX also, which is the same as the 168 but with a bigger screen, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

SoCal.

I recently purchased the Humminbird PiranhaMax 215, and i really like the unit. It runs on 8 AA batteries, battery life is great. It has the dual 60 an 20 degree sonar for better bottom definition. The fish finder is compact and easy to strap on the tube. Next time I see ya on the water, take a look at mine. I really believe it has helped me catch more fish. Here is a link

Hey Bassguy,

I checked that unit out too (or one like it) at BPS but they were sold out on those portable ones. So until they get some in, I guess I'm stuck waiting or try to figure a way with the non portable type. The hurdle I'm facing now is the space (or lack of) to strap a portable unit like yours on either side of the tube. There's only like 4" of room (before it starts the pointy part of the tube) that I could play with.

Was bored at work so I started playing with MS Paint when I thought of something like this might work. The whole thing will be made from PVC.

I think I saw the strap buckle style fish finder mount back in stock down there at BPS..

I got away with one of those single strap rod holders on the FC4..

ya I was at bass pro this week and they had plenty of portable finders....but for around 100$, the one at walmart is a good price for 50$... but with a finder that's not ''portable'' does it need a small battery hook up?

Yeah Matt, those units that are not portable will require at least a 7 amp hour sealed lead acid battery. I've heard of people being able to power them with 8 AA batteries, but I think a rechargeable SLA battery would be cheaper in the long run.

SoCal ,

After looking at a picture of the fish cat 4, you are limited to where you can m ount one. How much space do you have behing the pockets? Or is it set back to far to see the screen comfortably? Looks like your idea for a mount would work well. I might be at Perris Saturday if you want to look at mine.

I would say that it is set back too far to comfortably see it. I think I'm gonna go ahead and give my plan for a mount a shot though. I don't know where I'll be on Saturday yet. Probably at Home Depot buying the PVC LOL. After talking to a few tournament folks I know, most agreed with one of my original choices. So it looks like I'll be picking one up at BPS this weekend.
