A friend of mine has this. It has never been used and is around 50 years old. Before I give details on it does anyone know what it is ?

Very cool? Maybe for a sail boat? Looks good for 50 years old.

Well first of all its made in Germany. Looks like a forward reverse knob on the top near the back of the unit. I see a hydraulic line from side to rear(possibly for gear oil cooling) The mounts indicate that it would be mounted inboard through a well. I would say its from a military water craft.

That is a extremely rare German outdrive that a early Porsche or VW air cooled motor will bolt up to. It is a museum piece.

FNN Challenge; Try to find any info or pics on the internet. Anybody.
I have no idea what it is worth but would estimate the value at $10,000 - $20,000

Junk??????
Your killing me Cutbait.

That is similar to saying a 1956 Corvette is a piece of junk compared to a $4000 1987 Bako Corvette CB. After all a 87 Vette is faster, corners better, power windows ect.

Hurry DR we need to take the outdrive and see if Rick Harrison can get The Count to shed some light on this.
Still a cool piece. Remember drinking some real good beer in and around Hannover and Stuttgart Germany .

He doesn't want to sell it. When setting value on vintage German autos and accessories PRODUCTION NUMBERS are very important.
That is why standard 60's 70's VW beetles still are not worth much in 2013. I was a VW Porsche mechanic 1978 to 1984 so this is up my alley.
Have had 12 356 Porsches over the years and at least 75 VW's. Used to sell at Pomona swap meet in the 80's.

These RARE 1950's Porsche/VW accessories HAVE GONE THROUGH THE ROOF IN VALUE. $$$
That Outdrive is beyond rare. I searched 2 hours on google and found nothing.

If he put it on Ebay these wealthy collectors in Europe, Japan would bid on it $.

We are talking SUPER RARE here.

I have a 1953 Porsche that I paid $800 for back in the 90's. Needs full restoration. Been collecting parts for it for years. Bought a 1952 crashed Porsche and cut it for parts so I now have double parts for my retirement project. This thing has increased in value more than gold or real estate in 20 years. Less than 2000 cars made in 1953.
The 1952 That I paid $500 for in about 1992 then took a sawzall to it was one DUMBEST THINGS I EVER DID.

Here is a 1952 rust bucket that is totally thrashed and would be considered JUNK.

18 bids, $80,000 for a pieceofshit, rust bucket . This car cost around $4000 new. Check out the pics
