So today was day 2 of my Xmas vacation and I got to spend it fishing with my favorite fishing buddy, Nick the Perch Slayer! Due to a miscommunication, he arrived very early at the AO and wondered where I was at. I had previous obligations to watch my son sing in a Xmas program at 8:45am. Family first! Nick sent me a pick of his 14" BSP that he caught while I was watching my kid. Man... I really needed to get out there and get some of that perchin' action!

I arrived at the beach around 11am and had a long walk to the AO. Instead of hoofing straight there, I did some casting and walking until I got to where I was supposed to meet up with Nick. The waves were pretty big and the seas were quite rough. No salad though, which is always nice. After a dozen or so casts, I met up with Nick and a friend he brought at the AO. He informed me that he wasn't going to be able to stay much longer because he had been there so long.

I fished the LC for about 20 minutes with no luck. The wind was blowing in our faces and what little distance we normally get with it, was gone. I needed to switch to something heavier. So the Kroc made it's appearance today... tied it on and tossed it a mile. Love throwing the iron! I had two pretty good hookups where my line started peeling... but shortly it unbuttoned. I ended up getting a gnarley knot in my braid about 15 yards from the lure. No way to undo it and the line had to be cut. So I ended up putting that pole away for the day. I switched over to my G.Loomis GL3 with my new Shimano Curado 50E. This is only my 2nd day with a baitcaster, so I was still getting used to it. But I was casting quite well and only ended up with one birdsnest. I hooked up on a medium sized perch who graciously devoured my crack to remove my stripe for the day. With the skunk successfully off, we more or less called it quits.

We all walked back towards the car, but I was a little slow since I did my "walk-n-fish" on the way back. Didn't catch anything, but hey... ya gotta try! Nick was over it and I caught an awesome shot of him in his "DUDE... LET'S GO!" stance. HAHAHA.

Final counts: Nick ended up with 10 BSP of varying sizes. He got 2 on the LC and the rest with a "cracked" C-rig. I ended up with the one monster of a perch in the photo! YAY! Instead of going home, went to have some lunch and do our gift exchange. Thanks for the fish gripper brutha... as long as I catch some fish, it'll get used.
