Saturday Dec 14, 2013 Session #76
I receive a phone call from my S.W.A.T. Brotha Don aka: bachiboy .... he was all excited and tells me that he did it!! He finally landed the notorious Striped Bass which Don had nicknamed Mr. Kimble, after Dr. Richard Kimble from the movie THE FUGITIVE, since this was also an escaped jailbird.
I couldn't believe it .... Don said that he was going back out there to his spot to find Mr. Kimble and he did it!! He really did it!! WTG Don!! YAHOO!! You Nailed It Brotha!!
Well ... I wasn't having much success at my AO (one short Halibut), so I threw all of my gear into my S.W.A.T-mobile and hurried over to see Don at his AO and to join in on all of his excitement!
Well before I could arrive .... Don calls me on the phone and tells me that he had already taken off but Mike aka: Bones was still there and was still hitting it hard.
Well ... I finally arrived, parked the SUV and began looking for Mike for the next 20 minutes or so. I decided to text him to let him know that I couldn't find him and that I was going to take off when I received a call from Mike .... telling me to turn around ...and there he was with a big ol' sh_t eating grin on his face, waving me over to where he was. He was finished fishing for the day but after chit-chatting for a while we agreed to hook up at this spot Sunday morning before gray lite ..... "of course with Don's blessings"!
Don said that he was also going to try to make it back out Sunday morning.

Sunday Dec 15, 2013 Session #77
Sun Rise: 0651, Sun Set: 1646
Air: 56 - 77 deg, Water: 58 deg, Sky: AM pt cloudy to clear, Wind: 0 -6 MPH of shore .... great for casting an extra 20 feet!
Predicted Surf: 1 - 2 ft , Swell: 0.8 ft , Sec Intervals: 9 but more like 16.
Moon Phase: Waxing gibbous.
Conditions: Early morning off shore breeze making the casts travel an additional 20 ft, super flooded with a beach break, the break moved outside later with the tide change which moved the surfer further back from us. It also looked real fishy! The water was clean and also very clear in some spots.
Tides: 0606 ICT 5.6 ft, 0730 HT 6.2 ft, 0800 OGT 6.2 ft, 0900 5.4 ft, 1000 4.2 ft, 1436 LT 0.7 ft .
Isolunar Forecast: Major Period: 0904 to 1204. :BFish::BFish::BFish:
Bait Presence: A few 3-4" bait were breaking the water surface.
Bird Presence: Very minimal. Water Dogs: None
Session Duration: 0600 hrs to 1000 hrs.
Assault Tactic: LC 110 lure.
AO : aka: undisclosed

My Total fish count: (1) 34" Striped Bass and my PB and my "skunk buster" and (6-8) Small to medium BSP.

Mike and I arrive on time, gear up and head up the coast line to hook up with Don and Ben. We finally hook up with da boyz by 0630 and they've all ready been assaulting the area pretty hard.
Mike drops in down stream of Don and Ben into a real nice looking hole and I stayed up stream of the boyz. Then Don tells me that ... do ya see that tiny speck way up the beach Dan .... that's Arthur way up there and that he had already beached a 50" Shovel Nose Guitar Fish! :EyePop: WTG Brotha Arthur! :Dancing Banana: What a beast!!!

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%2012/Wingnut%2013/P1140205.jpg (http://s143.photobucket.com/user/Wingnut32566/media/Wingnut%2012/Wingnut%2013/P1140205.jpg.html)

So after visiting with Don and meeting Ben for the first time ... my spider instincts told me to move northward up the beach toward our Commander Wingnut's position. But before I took off ... Don also told me that he and Ben had already hit the area to the north where he hooked up with His SB yesterday ... "they hit it pretty hard" he said ... and that Arthur had also dissected that entire area pretty hard before taking off on his northbound trek for his GHOST. There's nothing there I was told! I figured what the heck ... I was here and was willing to give it a try!

I began working my way toward Arthur when I noticed a nice shinny section of flat water in front of the incoming waves, the surfers weren't in this spot so I decided to cast out over and between the sets of waves .... I could see my lure when it hit the flat shinny water ... it left a perfectly round 16" ring in the flat calm water ......... when ............... KABOOM!!! .....
ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE ......... it's now a 4 foot :EyePop: explosion of choppy boiling water with this gigantic tail raising out of the water and causing a huge hellacious splash and then it went for it's earth moving run like a freight train with no end in sight!!! My rod tip bent down into the water, I raised my rod and set the hooks, the monster kept pulling line and didn't stop. So I then quickly hand pulled line off my reel to feel the drag tension and loosened it a bit ... adjusting my drag perfectly ... allowing the monster to run almost free but with some resistance ...... I wanted to enjoy the moment of knowing I had a monstrous fish on ..... and yet I wanted the fight to last for as long as possible! What a great feeling to have a fish pull that hard and with that much brutal strength! YAHOO!!! It made it's runs to the north and I kept up with it while running and splashing in the surf while grinning from ear to ear! :Big Grin:

My Brotha's Don, Mike and Ben were approx 200 yards to the south of me and Brotha Arthur was approx 200 yards to the north of me when I began yelling "HOOK UP"!! ..."HOOK UP"!! At the top of my lungs!!! Don and Arthur began sprinting toward me from both directions and Don was the first to arrive by my side .... and our eyes were like :EyePop:!!
I made myself calm down because my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest!!

I know that Don was talking to me the whole time ..... but I was so "HIGH" on "FISH" at that moment that I couldn't really hear him ...... thanks for the coaching Brotha:
Don busted out his camera and began doing the ol' Allen Funk (Candid Camera) thing on me ...

http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r627/bachidym/1st_battle_shot_zps20a79960.jpg (http://s1175.photobucket.com/user/bachidym/media/1st_battle_shot_zps20a79960.jpg.html)

Don yells at me ..... "Hey Dan ... look at me"!

http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r627/bachidym/2nd_battle_shot_zps3a6a1313.jpg (http://s1175.photobucket.com/user/bachidym/media/2nd_battle_shot_zps3a6a1313.jpg.html)

Don ..... I want to thank you for being my #1 wingman on this day! Don had calmly directed me to slid the monster in on the next wave surge ... and as I did he calmly reached down and firmly tail grabbed that BAD BOY! WTG .. Don!!!!! You are the dude!!! Thank you ... Thank you .... thank you Don! :UDaMan:
Thank you Poseidon!! :Not Worthy:
I think the entire battle from the moment of hook up :Fishing Catch: to the final beaching took maybe all of fifteen minutes.

And here it is ..... my 34 inch Striped Bass and new Personal Best I guess that you could say ....."I pulled the rabbit out of the hat" this day!

I Looked up the Striped Bass length and weight chart and it says that a 34" fish is 9 years of age, and have an average weight of 16.5 pounds with a maximum weight of 19 pounds.
I would put it's weight at 17 - 18 pounds +. The girth on this fish was just huge!!

Our SWAT Commander Arthur ... he joined me in one last photo before returning Poseidon's gift.

My lethal weapon of choice today: Lucky Craft 110 Electric Ghost Sardine with Owner ST-46 TN 2X size #6 treble hooks with an Owner #5 red stinger hook.
With the knowledge I gained from my (3) three previously beached (surf landed) Stripe Bass and with the understanding of just what they can do to a standard set of hooks, and due to Don's successful Striper landing INTEL from the previous day (knowing that they were there) ... I had purposefully put this lure together in this particular fashion the night before ... because I wanted to target, hunt down and land any willing Stripe Bass that reared it face to me this day. Don aka: bachiboy pointed me to the location and my weapon was a complete success!
Note: If the gear is incorrectly matched to the weight and the fight of the fish ... the fish will most likely straighten out your hooks and or unbutton it's self in a heart beat! The motto of the story is ... "always be prepared for when opportunity presents it's self".

Special thanks for this turn of advents:

Thank you Don ... for putting in the months of RECON work, for proving the AO with your monstrous 34" Striped Bass just the day before, for sharing your INTEL with us and for inviting all of us to join you here today! You are the best .... Brotha! I'm glad that you're in my life Brotha!

Thank you Mr Bones ... If we hadn't hooked up on Saturday and spent time together .... well ... I would have probably gone back to a different AO full of weeds!
Thanks for sharing the INTEL with me Brotha! It was also because of you that I was at this AO today! I'm glad that you're in my life Brotha!

And lastly Arthur ...... "You" simply did the least which was also very important ...... you lead the way! Thanx for allowing me to follow you ... Sir ..... gratefully the "Grasshopper"! :Not Worthy:
I wanted to fish my way up to you and say hi to ya and shake your hand Brotha ... and if you hadn't been so far up the beach .... well I would never have made it to that exact spot ... to meet up with that exact Stripe Bass ... at that exact moment of time in my life! Fate! Karma! Ju Ju! ..... What ever ya call it ..... I'm glad that you're in my life Brotha!
When we did finally hook up ..... not only did I get a hand shake from you Arthur .... but I also got a BIG HIGH-5 and a huge Bromigo hug to go along with it too!

PS ..... Arthur was excited for me a yet a bit  bummed at first when he caught up to Don and myself ...... he mentioned that he had also :EyePop: hooked up with a large Striped Bass at the northern end of the beach but it unbuttoned from his lethal hooks! I guess it will have to be your  GHOST story for a short bit longer my friend. It's out there Arthur .... it's just a simple matter of time before the two of you will encounter each other!

Some parting shots:

Arthur on the BSP bite .... it was wide open there for a while for all of us! :Big Grin:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%2012/Wingnut%2013/P1140217.jpg (http://s143.photobucket.com/user/Wingnut32566/media/Wingnut%2012/Wingnut%2013/P1140217.jpg.html)

Lt Bones with the big perch of the day! 15" .... WTG Mike!

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%2012/Wingnut%2013/P1140218.jpg (http://s143.photobucket.com/user/Wingnut32566/media/Wingnut%2012/Wingnut%2013/P1140218.jpg.html)

And our group shot from left to tight: Dan aka: SP Dan, Ben, Arthur aka: Wingnut, Don aka: bachiboy and finally Mike aka: Bones.

I want to wish everyone a "Merry Christmas" and a "Happy New Year"!

Pssssst ..... (Don't let Arthur :Envious: read this) Shhhhhhh!
This makes my fourth Striped Bass that I've beached from the surf in 23 months! Thank you Poseidon!

Brother Dan... what can I say but I'm envious of your early Christmas present from Poseidon. :Envious:
It was a pleasure watching you beach that fish and I'm glad that I was there to celebrate with you. :Big Grin:
Like Don mentioned, we didn't care who catches one that morning, just that somebody did. You deserved it Brother Dan, your passion and determination is inspirational to us all.
I consider your success, my success... Seeing you out that beautiful fish on the sand ease the sting of the one I lost earlier and gives me extra motivation to continue the chase of the "Elusive One."
Hopefully, I will see you guys on Sunday...

My goodness! That Striper looks HUGE! I bet it was one helluva fight! Congrats Dan! I am still in awe and amazement! You certainly deserved that trophy after ALL of those sessions you have had since early summer. What are you at now? 100 sessions for 2013? The year is not over yet baby!

I will not likely hit the surf again until the end of the year or even next year but who knows...I may want in on some of that fugitive action over there!

Dan - on a personal note (on a public forum), you have been a caring, kind and generous brother to me and I thank you. It goes beyond fishing my friend. My family and I wish you and Rhonda a 2014 full of stripers (that's a metaphor ). Just think of how much better the new year will bring! I look forward to sharing another year with you and the rest of my S.W.A.T. family.

WOW! That's all I could keep saying on Saturday...that's all I could keep saying Sunday...WOW! I can't believe we just pulled that off. My text on Saturday morning to a lot of you guys was, "What are the odds?", since I had nailed mine on the first cast of the morning. But for you to walk up to the same spot, in front of that same ol' lifeguard station and pull a exact same length surf-caught striper out...what are the odds? Pretty dang good on this weekend I guess. Before you and Mike arrived, I kept looking at Ben, then Arthur, then up in the sky and saying, "PLEASE let one of these guys hook up! I got mine, just let them get one." When you and Mike showed up, that extended to you. It was actually kinda stressful, cuz I kept thinking, "God, don't let me have dragged these guys out here for nothing. Let one of 'em have a go at Kimble." Then...BAM! It happened. I'm pretty sure I was smiling more yesterday than I was Saturday. That feels awesome. I'm so happy for you brotha. I wish everyone could of got one on the beach, but hopefully we'll all have another go at them soon. You're a good man Danimal. You've done a lot to help others as well as myself...you deserved that fish!:Applause:

Congrats my friend!

Gonna keep this simple and straight to the point...

WAY TO GO DANIMAL !!!

What I find REALLY strange is that Robert,Don and YOU have all caught 34" Stripers..... So I guess that is the target size to beat for me and the general...LOL

I'm envious as all hell brotha. This is the fourth striper you have put on the sand in the last year and I'm still hunting my first. You are officially a striper magnet dude. Your enthusiasm in life and on the sand is second to none. You gave up many valuable years in the USMC as a soldier and your dedication to help your dear Rhonda has been rewarded again. God truly rewards those who give unselfishly as anyone who has known you can obviously see.

I'm proud to know you Dan the Man aka "The Danimal"

Keep up the great work my friend and I'll see you very soon for another adventure in life.

MERRY FISHMAS BROTHA!!

DAAAAANNNNNN DA MANNNNN!!! :UDaMan: I just noticed that I started breathing hard while I was reading your post!! WOWEEEEE!! I'm really bummed that I wasn't able to join you guys - I just KNEW something was going to happen. It couldn't have happened to a better brother, and EVERY ounce of joy that you felt on that first run of his, was earned, and well deserved. You made a comment about Arthur leading, but don't undervalue the leadership, guidance, and cheerleading that you provide for a LOT of us. :Worship: You are an inspiration to those around you, not only in the surf, but outside of it as well. This is just one of God's little trophies along the way.

Happy Belated Fishmakkuh. And congratulations on a beauty of a fish!!!!

Out of curiosity, I actually popped open pictures of both fish to see if there were the same markings but they were different. Just incredibly coincidental that they came from the exact same spot and were the exact same size...cookie cutters, eh?

Hi ya Brotha Arthur,

It was my honor to have shared the beach with you once again my friend!
That was one :EyePop: helluva SNGF that you beached Sir.... it must have put up one heck of a good fight! :EyePop: 50 inches ... WTG!

My spidy instincts tell me that "your" Striped Bass is still out there ...... and that it's just a matter of time before it happens! So make it happen Sir!
I would luv to be there; with you, on that special occasion, as your wingman and taking lots of pictures of you as you did for me at my special moment this past weekend. Thank you for that! Those were some great pictures of "the man and his fish"!!

I guess that you could say that I was the lucky chosen one that day and was Blessed to have pulled the rabbit out of the hat that time ..... it felt great to say the least! Especially .... while having accomplished it in the company of (having better skills than my own) other great; well seasoned and talented, surf fishing anglers and my mentors such as :Not Worthy: yourself aka: Wingnut, bachiboy and Mr. Bones!

"Merry FishMas" and some "Happy New Gear"!

You are like a Salmon returning from the salt water .... the water :EyePop: calls out to you .... and you must answer it's call!

Don

Hi ya Brotha Don,

It was your big heart and your selfless prayers; for our success, that were answered by Poseidon on this day Sir!
You put in the many hours of leg work and RECON work just to unselfishly put myself and your S.W.A.T. Brotha's on this particular proven (by you) AO. You are incredible!

Thank you Don .... for pointing me in the direction, for being at my side when the need arose, for being an outstanding wingman who coached me thru the wave surge and then perfectly tail grabbed the beast .... and also for taking a lot of pictures of me for this report! Your awesome!

"Merry FishMas" and some "Happy New Gear"!

Thank you for all of your kind words and your friendship my Brotha,
Dan

You guys are killing me. I think I have a cold coming on and the only fix is to get some saltwater spray in my face....

That's Team work all around. Good job Dan and thanks for the funny Christmas card. Hug Rhonda and have a wonderful holiday season.

WWO

Hi ya Brotha Bill,

Don gets all the credit for getting me to that AO and for pointing me in the correct direction!
I hope that I will be able to return the gift back to Don some day soon!

"Merry FishMas" and some "Happy New Gear"!

Thank you for all of your kind words and your friendship my Brotha,

Hi ya Brotha Mike,

 Ha ha ha ..... "yep"! .... knowing you ... you will definitely be pulling a 35" Stripe Bass out of the hat for sure! It's out there my friend!

Thanks for allowing me your ear when I had a barrage of questions and thanks for sharing so much of your fishing experience with me!

I am always honored and yet humbled to share the salt with such great legends such as yourself (my :UDaMan: mentor) and all of the rest of my S.W.A.T. family. Always a good time to be had by all!

Exactly what I was going to say, and congrats. on the 15er "Bones' all Id been getting is 14ers. but soon that will change

Hi ya Danial,

Your words are way to kind!
Maybe we could get Mike to post a report on the "Bones' 15er" ... then you could jump all over. :Big Grin:
Did you notice how you guys pose similarly with your BSP?

"Merry FishMas" and some "Happy New Gear"!

Dan

All my best!!
Nate

Hi ya Bortha Nate,

Okay Nate ..... I want you to relax now and breath slowly through your nose ..... the hard breathing that you were experiencing while reading my report was just your debilitating Halibut-tosis addiction kicking in! This can be very serious Nate! Don't panic!
#1) I want you to stop everything that you are doing right now and head straight down to your nearest beach and immediately perform two slow cast and retrievals with your Lucky Craft lure. #2) If for some reason you don't feel immediate relief ..... please repeat #1 has much as you find necessary until a calming comes over you. :Big Grin: Then call me in the morning at gray lite!

"Merry FishMas" and some "Happy New Gear"!

Thank you for all of your kind words and your friendship my Brotha,

Very nice strip Dan, loads of fun on the St. Croix. Very nice perch as well Lt. Bones.

Hi ya bassmeister,

The St Croix performed perfectly accompanied by the Van Staal VS-100G reel with 55 lb Samurai braided line. It never stood a chance! :Big Grin:

Damn!!!!!!Christmas came early for you this year!!!!!! How perfect was that, having your brothers there to film, and assist in the tail grab, bet that grin is plastered on your mug for the rest of the year! Jazzed for you, and thats gonna be hard to beat! Congrats from your northern brother. Mikey

Hi ya Brotha Mikey,

This bad boy was definitely on my Christmas wish list this Season! :Big Grin:
Don definitely has a huge heart for sure, for sharing his spot with all of us!
Heck ... I wouldn't have landed this fish if it hadn't been for Don sharing his INTEL with me.
I look forward to returning the favor back to Don some day soon.

I believe that Robert, Don and myself are in a three way tie.

Hi ya Martin,

 Ha ha ha! That's funny that you should say that! I was thinking the same thing! Don pulled up both of our fish and compared their marking and said that they were nothing a like! Phew! ..... :Rolls Eyes: that's a relief!
That would be like we were stocking our own pond!

"Merry FishMas" and some "Happy New Gear"!

Thank you for all of your kind words,

Dan,

I was just telling a buddy how I have poor luck fishing the full moon--but your exploits on the surf is giving me new hope

Congratulation to all on yet another fruitful outing! :Beer Toast:

Andrew

Hi ya Brotha Andrew,

It's Striper Season!
I owe most of my success to our S.W.A.T. Brotha Don aka: bachiboy, for his invite to his proven AO.

Dan OMG! What a fun read!

I had to wait to get home so I could take in the whole story of the day and I was not disappointed. I was grinning from ear to ear Brother.

I have to say right here and right now you have worked your tail off to get that fish. I know personally from fishing with you how passionate you are and how persistent you are in the surf.......That fish was yours! All yours! Great job Dan!:Thumbs Up:

Hi ya Brotha Terry,

The report was a little long but I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed it enough to grin from ear to ear! :Big Grin:
I definitely look forward to our next session in the salt, maybe we could target some legal flatties!

"Merry FishMas" and some "Happy New Gear"!

Thank you for all of your kind words and your friendship my Brotha,
Dan

Out of curiosity, I actually popped open pictures of both fish to see if there were the same markings but they were different. Just incredibly coincidental that they came from the exact same spot and were the exact same size...cookie cutters, eh?

Thanx Brotha Don .... for checking that out and for putting "fish pond stocking" to rest!

I am so happy reading this.i wish I was in high school,it would make a great book report.extra bbq for u too.

Hi ya Brotha Chris,

 Ha ha ha! Thanx Chris ...... between your school assignment report and my fish .... I believe that we would both receive an A+ slathered in BBQ sauce!

Phenomenal report! Live action captured beautifully. Congratulations on that monster fish, and how sweet it is to see it return from "whence it came." What a true sportsman you are. Happy seasons to all.

Congrats Dan on the elusive saltwater Striper!:Bug Eyes: That is the catch of a lifetime for many from the beach.
You have definatley put in the time and effort and earned that beast. As always I enjoy reading your posts because it
makes me feel as though I was there with you. Thanks for the great report and pics!

Hi ya 5150fishn,

Thanks for checking out my report Dan and thanks for the response too!
It was really all about a friend sharing his exclusive AO with another trusted friend, it was by running into friends and a bit of hurrying after friends ... that fate put me at that exact spot .... to make contact with THAT exact fish at that exact time.
Fate, Karma JU JU, Mo Jo .... call it what you will ... That's what I get for hanging with good people!

Merry Christmas Dan

Dan

Brotha Dan,
The smile on your face says it all...:Big Grin:
I wish I was out there with all of you, but work ( and my eventual retirement ) comes first...:Rolls Eyes:
I am going to try and get out there with you guys on Sunday, time will tell...:Envious:
Great report and pics.
Take care Brotha,

Hi ya Robert,

It was good to see ya today at the gathering!
You have an interesting fishing technique that I noticed today .... you "fish a little and give back .... a little. LOL! Work must be $$ good these days!
Give me a howler when you get the time ... we can hit the salt!

"Merry Christmas Brotha"!

Dan

Looked like a good day!!!
Congrats,,,,

Cm

Hi ya crappiemike,

Especially when ... I walked out the door this morning and was willing to get myself into my SUV and drive down to the beach .... and to be happy again with what ever fish that took my hook today!
When I arrived I followed into a hole that had just previously been swept by (3) three highly skilled Surf :EyePop: war droids: Wingnut, bachiboy and Ben.
I got the "Rabbit out of the hat" ... and the bragging rights that day!
It was a good day indeed.

Merry Christmas

Dan

Well I leave you for one weekend and look what you do!!!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-) Congrats buddy, I see you had a pretty good"wing"man
So I wasn't needed,,I know how hard you work at this and its pushing off, lotsofbites

Hi ya ironmachin,

Thanx for checking out my fish report!

Merry Christmas

Dan

DAN THE MAN! Way to pull the rabbit out of the hat! When I got the text I was like wow two stripers in the same week! What's interesting is that they were both at 34inches. Weird. That fish looks thick! Sure it put up one heck of a fight. Congrats brotha Dan!

Hi ya Brotha Jaysuuun,

"wow two stripers in the same week" ... That's what I call a double blessing ..... sharing one's good luck with friends!
Don had compared the marking from each of the SB fish photos and he said that they were not similar at all.

I missed seeing you and Tess at the 2013 SWAT Winter Gathering at Chris' home today!

Merry Christmas to both of you

Hi Dan:

I always look forward to your posts. Each one let's me feel almost like I'm there watching:Shocked: This one is more of the same Dan only even more amazing.

Of course all the action you have experienced and the great catches made in 2013, catching that 34"striper would seem to be the fish of the year!!!

Congratulations to you, my friend! You are a great sportsman of the surf!

I expect and look forward to hearing about more of your great experiences in surf this new year.

All the best,
