DR if you like this technique check out the Shark Trollers Bible by Fred Archer. Fred was an east coast shark fisherman that setup shop in Dana Point in the early 80s and helped pioneer big game shark fishing along with the Bongos guys here is So Cal. My salt water mentor was good friends with Fred and the guys at Bongos and in turn showed me everything I ever wanted to know about trolling for Makos and Threshers. Decades before I ever even heard about umbrella rigs we are using Daisy Chains and Spreader Bars to troll for Makos. The spreader bars looked very much like an umbrella rig with the only real difference being there is only one stinger or hooked bait. It is set just behind the main group or school to mimic a predator chasing a bait ball or the weakest swimmer falling behind the school. Unlike Striper you DO NOT want more than one mako getting hooked at any one time.

This is also a great technique for big tuna. Happy Trolling!

Cool Video!
