Howdy Boys,
After drop'n the kids @ school I head'd over to Shimano to have a couple reels serviced. The reels had been feel'n a little rough lately so thought they needed some maintenance work done on them. Turns out it's a warranty issue on both reels so they'll be send'n me new ones(other than the spools). Nice!
Headed down to my "home away from home" after drop'n the kids & reels off. Hadn't been back home here in about 2 weeks, so great to be back! Started work'n my way down the beach around 10:30 & caught the 1st fish of the day(8"BSP)around 10:40. It's good to be home! Caught this fish w/an LCFM110 which I continued to use for the next to hour for nada. Reached my turn around point & switched over to the LC65 & landed a 13"BSP around 12:00. Kept work'n my way up the beach w/the LC65 but wasn't get'n anything. Oh well, its good to be back home. Took a little break. Drank some water, ate someth'n, went to the bathroom.
After my break I continued work'n my way back up the beach. Wasn't gett'n anything and was at the point where I could head back to the car or keep head'n up the beach. 2 fish in 2 1/2 hours, not great but pretty much the norm for me lately. It was a beautiful cloudy rainy day so I decide to fish a little longer and hit some spots w/structure up the beach. At 1:30 I was work'n the 1st area w/structure and got a good hit. Landed my 2nd ever Beach'but. A new PB 21". Darn 1" short of legal! I was stoked. Took some pics & measurements then released the fish. Kept work'n that area but got noth'n. So decided to head to some similar structure up the beach.
Started work'n this area, but even w/the help of the off-shore wind I couldn't quite reach it w/the LC65 so I switched back to the LCFM110. Right after switch'n lures I get the hardest hit I've ever had surf fish'n. This fish hit like a train and put up a great fight. Had no idea what it was. After fight'n it for a few minutes I eventually surfed it in on a wave & it hit the wet sand & just stuck there! I had know idea what it was, but it was huge! Ran down grabbed it & ran back up to dry sand w/it! It was a Calico! I've never caught one this big from a boat let alone the beach!! A 22" Calico & this thing was heavy(10#'s? maybe more)! Amazing! Another PB!! Took some pics & measurements then released the fish. Wow that was awesome! Its around 2:30 now & time to start head'n back towards the car, gotta pick up the kids from school around 3:30.
Got a few more minutes to work this area then I gotta go. So, 2 casts after release'n the calico, I get a heavy hit & I can see it's another Halibut. This one is putt'n up a better fight than the first one & it's heavier. After a short battle I get it onto the wet sand & it goes a little crazy, so I grab it & move it up the beach. Unbelievable I've caught another Halibut. I get out the camera & the tape...24 1/2"s my 1st legal & a new PB! Wow! What a day.
So after measuring and pics I realease the fish and start fish'n and get a good hit but it doesn't stick. Throw back to the same spot & fish on! Another calico 12". Now its past time to go! So I gotta go! Do a few casts here & there while i'm power walk'n back to the car but that was it for today.
Final Fish Count- 2 BSP for the first 2-3 hours, then 2 halibut(1st legal &new PB) & 2 calico(1 a new PB) in the last hour and half.
Amaze'n Day!
Thanks 4 Read'n,

Ps. Ended up pick'n the kids up about a half hour late! Oops!!
