Prologue:
I got picked for Jury Duty. No, not as in you show up and don't get picked for a trial. The kind where you actually sit through voir dire and get impaneled. So as I sit there trying to figure out how I am going to fit in Jury service, work, church commitments and my oldest son's birthday weekend getaway, I realize, I need fishing more than ever! We were supposed to meet up with family and stay in Carlsbad from Friday to Monday, but as mentioned above, my schedule changed. So, on Sunday morning, I planned my attack.

AO: Cbad
Gear: Shimano Clarus (7ft casting) and Calcutta with a 10 lb top shot of mono; S.W.A.T. Edition LC
Conditions: high tide with 2 to 3 foot swells and full moon
Weather: perfect
Time 6:00 am to 8:00 am

I made the last minute decision to sneak out on Sunday. I had most of my gear except for my ST.Croix (I couldn't take the 8 footer because we had extra people in the car). I know that the conditions are not really conducive to a productive session, but hey, it was 1.5 miles away from where we were staying and I needed solo therapy.

Geared up and hit the sand at 6:00 am sharp. I started making casts to be greeted with mild to thick salad. The surf was rough and the waves were NOT 1-2 feet as I misread on MSW. It doesn't matter. I start my meditation while casting. I said a prayer to the Big Guy that I trust that he will provide me with exactly what I need and not any more. I was content. About an hour later, I hook into some dead weight. The power of the waves made it feel like I was pulling in a small kelp stringer but I felt head shakes. Ok. Maybe I got something here. I get it near and beach the little guy easily.

Feisty little guy. HE kind of looked like me!

This is what I caught him on:

Man, this LC is close to retirement. After having caught my first surf Calico and my PB, along with a variety of other fish on it, the LC has gone through 2 hook replacements and lost an eye.

ANyways, that was it for the day. Hey, He provided exactly what I needed! Felt great and called it a day. This is what the surf looked like after it calmed down.

Epilogue:
So, amdist child caring duties, a full time job, a full time church schedule (two banquets in two weeks), a jury trial, and birthday getaway for my child and wife's b-days, and playing host to 6 family members, I got JUST enough from the deep blue to satisfy my surf craving for another week. Thank the Good Lord.

Great report! I enjoyed the read.

Confused. In the midst of me feeling the weight of the world, I am stating that I am not alone...I have God, family, my church, and my one fish. I feel blessed.

I'm with you. I'm blessed as well.

The Lord won't test you beyond what you're able to bear.

If you're fishing "none" is the loneliest number for a catch! JK

Dang Ken... retire that S.W.A.T. LC already before Poseidon permanently retires it for you.
I would love to give you another one, but I have only two left myself. One almost as beat up as yours and one brand new in box and that's where it will stay.
You caught one more Flattie than I did this weekend. :Envious:
Hey, that Hali does kinda look like you... minus the glasses and slanted eyes. :Big Smile:
See you at the S.W.A.T. Christmas party, or maybe before...

Well, I figured you'd get something outta that session. Like I said before, battling that fish beats the hell out of battling what I got. Too bad about the Jury Duty, but like I also said, there are a lot of worse things in life to have to go through so gut it out and it'll pass soon enough. See you at the party, if not sooner.

Don

It's smiling 'cause it knows that he fooled me into thinking he could be legal.

The LC has got a little life left to it. It's my favorite LC so far except for my induction fish catching LC! See you at the party if not sooner Boss!

I know the circumstances of this mission all too well.. Hectic work weeks, family commitments, around the clock dad duty, and the never ending list of things that need to get done around the house. Getting out for a couple hours on the beach is great therapy.

Could you imagine fishing with a band playing for you ?

Hey Jerry or others. Anyone recognize this AO.
1966 Herb Albert and the TJ Brass.
Try bringing a Grand Piano on your next outing. Lol
A flashback for Danimal...

Well, the salad wasn't the biggest challenge. The rough surf was. In any event, I had to get out there no matter what 'cause I needed the time away. Thanks for replying Brad!

None of us are ever alone. God is present in everyone at all times. Our awareness and acceptance of this simple fact is crucial for a life of substance and meaning. EXAMPLE... Look at the face on that fishes back....:Big Grin:

Like Jerry says, great therapy. Add a pianist on the beach would be more relaxing.

That Herb Alpert beach video scene does look familiar, just can't recall that rock arch.
My dad would play his LPs in the 60's. Never realized how HUGE the guy was till yesterday. He went to Fairfax high.

Alpert's musical accomplishments include five number one albums and 28 albums total on the Billboard charts, eight Grammy Awards, fourteen platinum albums and fifteen gold albums. As of 1996, Alpert had sold 72 million albums worldwide.
