Prologue:
I got picked for Jury Duty. No, not as in you show up and don't get picked for a trial. The kind where you actually sit through voir dire and get impaneled. So as I sit there trying to figure out how I am going to fit in Jury service, work, church commitments and my oldest son's birthday weekend getaway, I realize, I need fishing more than ever! We were supposed to meet up with family and stay in Carlsbad from Friday to Monday, but as mentioned above, my schedule changed. So, on Sunday morning, I planned my attack.
AO: Cbad
Gear: Shimano Clarus (7ft casting) and Calcutta with a 10 lb top shot of mono; S.W.A.T. Edition LC
Conditions: high tide with 2 to 3 foot swells and full moon
Weather: perfect
Time 6:00 am to 8:00 am
I made the last minute decision to sneak out on Sunday. I had most of my gear except for my ST.Croix (I couldn't take the 8 footer because we had extra people in the car). I know that the conditions are not really conducive to a productive session, but hey, it was 1.5 miles away from where we were staying and I needed solo therapy.
Geared up and hit the sand at 6:00 am sharp. I started making casts to be greeted with mild to thick salad. The surf was rough and the waves were NOT 1-2 feet as I misread on MSW. It doesn't matter. I start my meditation while casting. I said a prayer to the Big Guy that I trust that he will provide me with exactly what I need and not any more. I was content. About an hour later, I hook into some dead weight. The power of the waves made it feel like I was pulling in a small kelp stringer but I felt head shakes. Ok. Maybe I got something here. I get it near and beach the little guy easily.

Feisty little guy. HE kind of looked like me!

Man, this LC is close to retirement. After having caught my first surf Calico and my PB, along with a variety of other fish on it, the LC has gone through 2 hook replacements and lost an eye.
ANyways, that was it for the day. Hey, He provided exactly what I needed! Felt great and called it a day. This is what the surf looked like after it calmed down.

Epilogue:
So, amdist child caring duties, a full time job, a full time church schedule (two banquets in two weeks), a jury trial, and birthday getaway for my child and wife's b-days, and playing host to 6 family members, I got JUST enough from the deep blue to satisfy my surf craving for another week. Thank the Good Lord.
