What a great day and a great event run by Seeker Rods. Seeker rods has long been one of the most popular Saltwater rods in the world and have been venturing into the freshwater scene for awhile now. They make a fine line of Trout rods that are perfect for fishing the trout here at Irvine Lake. Check them out at your local retailer. This is the 3rd annual Seeker Rods Family Fun day. The guys and gals over at Seeker go all out on their event holding differnet catogries and even having a BBQ lunch for everyone that enters the event.

A lot of BIG fish came up to the scales along with a lot of limits. Quite a few families where on the water today either trolling for Trout or casting bait from the shore! The fishng was REEAAAAALLLLY good today as well. But the one thing that really stood out was that like the name of the event it was great FAMILY fun! Anglers where catching fish from all the prime locales the West Shore, Red Clay Cliffs, and the Santiago Flats.

Trollers did VERY VERY VERY well today as the fish are really keyed in on the bait now! (Wait til you see Phil's fish and the story that goes with it)!! The Berkley Frenzy Flickershad did a lot of damage on the Trout population today as not 1, not 2 but 3 (three) fish all over the 10+lb mark where checked in on the Flickershad in various colors. The hot colors in the Flickershad have been the Hot Pink, Chrome Clown, Racy Shad and the Firetiger. Also doing very well are the SC Shiners in the Bubblegum, Silver Shad, Yellow Spot, and Matte Firetiger! If you are looking for a SLEEPER trolling lure that Yellow Spot is spot on (no pun inttended for the Silversides in the lake) Silverside imitation. Trolling a combonation of these two lures gives the fish different looks and a different size bait all in one pattern. A lot of boats (2 anglers) are trolling two Flickershad, and SC Shiner and a Rapala or jerkbait style lure and are scoring limits pretty good.

Bait guys found their prime spots to be the West Shore and the Red Clay Cliffs area. The fish have really been keyed in on the Chartruse, Rainbow and Lime Twist colored powerbaits. Adding scents or buying prescented baits has only upped the odds of getting bit. Guys fishing the the Nightcrawlers have also been scoring a bunch of Rainbows and the occasional Brown Trout.

Lure fisherman have been doing very well on the Thomas Buoyant casting spoons from shore. The hot colors on those have been the Hot Pink, Pearl White, and Gold colored spoons. Mini Jig and dropshot guys have been scoring a gluteny of fish as well. The hot colors for those anglers has been Pearl White, Pink, Orange Peel, Roe and Smoke colored baits.

To the pictures from todays event: Warning it will be very picture HEAVY!!!

Lake Regular Phil Hildebrandt of Anaheim is pictured here with a 8.35lb Rainbow Trout he caught while drift fishing a nightcrawler under a casting bubble. Now for the story of this fish. Phil was fishing with his partner in crime Mr Bradley Sampson. Phil had all ready lost a big Trout earlier in the day. As they drifted along Phil and Bradley noticed what looked to be either Bass or Wiper boils. Phil threw out a mini jig and was instantly bendo. The fish peeled a bunch of line and ran straight at the boat!! Phil caught up to this fish but the fish came unbottend under the boat! Still boiling on the surface Phil threw a flylined Nightcraweler into the fray! A huge boil on the nightcrawler ensued and the end result was this LUNKER Trout! The whole time Phil and Bradley where fishing a school of LUNKER trout that had pushed up a ball of bait!
