Balboa Beach 9-23

My buddy and i headed down to the Balboa pier at around 7am. Got bait and headed north in the alley looking for free parking. After sliding between two SUV's i finally found a hidden spot. So we packed up our gear and headed over the sands to the huge waves that were crashing on the shore. I forgot how bad the waves where that close to balboa. Threw our lines in at about 730am we didnt even get a bite!!!!! About 2 hours later, we were about to leave when i felt something hit my line. I set the hook and when my line came up i had a little 1 ft leopard shark. We stayed for a little while longer and didnt catch anything else for the rest of the day. Still a good time.

Actually he really didnt fight at all i just reeled him in. Still fun to see him on the end of my hook. Strong too.

you should give huntington beach a try or bolsa chica for the surf. use squid or mackeral. good luck!
