Today was Opening Day of Trout Season 2013/2014 and the fish did not disappoint today! With some 20,000lbs of Trout stocked prior to the opener which included probably the most impressive FINAL 5,000lb of Trout stocked for the opener this author has seen in his 15yrs at the lake. The final stocking included Brown Trout to the 10lb mark and a tank absolutley jugged full of TROPHY Rainbow trout up to 15lbs!!!
Fishing was red hot from the get go with Red Clay Cliffs, West Shore and Santiago Flats being the hot spots. Guys fishing the micro Trout Worms from Trout King and Berkley did very well as the fish seemed to allready be keyed in on the lakes HEALTHY supply of foage fish (silversides and shad). Trollers did very well trolling the SC Shiners and Flickershads. Once again the Bubblegum/Hot Pink color proved to be the HOT color this year. Some lure draggers found success on the the Firetigers, Chrome Clowns and Gold colors too.
Bait dunkers did very well on all the Garlic powerbaits, Salmon Peach Powerbaits, and the Gulp Doughs. Adding scents such as the Bite On Garlic, Roe, and Maize further enhanced offerings. The good ol Garden Hackle (nightcrawlers) also produced a lot of fish. Guys fishing nightcrawlers seemed to catch more of the Brook Trout as these fine eating chars defintley keyed in on the more natural offerings.

On behalf of the staff of Irvine Lake I would like to thank eveyone that came out today for Opening Day. It was very nice to see a lot of familar faces in the line up and in the shop today. Everyone was so freindly and excited it makes all the hard work that Daniela, myself and the staff put in seem so much more worth it. With out all of you this would not be possible so thank you very much.

Just a reminder next Saturday is our first Trout Tournament and Masters Qualifer the Veterans Day Weekend Trout Tournament.
