What could go wrong? Erik and I planned to go fishing at his favorite AO today. He was bringing his two cute kids, Logan and Jordan, with us. But Erik realized that there was way too much climbing in and out as well as 'no' facilities i.e. "Not Kid friendly!" No problem...

Change of plans
The Pig Pen AO became our new destination (it is definitely kid friendly). The plan was to meet a 7am. So I picked up a friend, Danny, whom I invited earlier and drove to the AO. We arrived early. It was still gray light and Erik was not there yet. We grabbed our AAW - amphibious assault weaponry (poles and stuff) and walked to the rocks to start fishing. Danny was using a tried and true hook -weight assault system (Carolina rig loaded with crack). I was utilizing the advanced attack system commonly referred to by it's acronym LC (MS Anchovy).

Seeing kittys with white stripes
Danny, fairly soon into the assault, starts nailing 'em. And nailing 'em. Me? not so much. Truth be told, I was not getting anything except for lots-O-cast practice. 45 minutes into it Danny is racking it up and I'm starting to picture the big stink. "Can't I even just see what it feels like to get one little tap, Pleaaase!" I change to my new cool "SurfDriver" 110 sinking minnow. Another 30 minutes and no happiness.

Yo where you bean?
Feeling that stinking feeling, I was too focused on myself to realize Erik and kids hadn't shown up yet. It was 7:30 when I finally heard my cell phone ringing. I picked it up but missed the call but I noticed all the texts from Erik for the last half hour which to summarize said, "We're here, where are you?' That's blow'in it., I know. Erik and his kids were here for the last half hour trying to find us and I'm too clueless to notice - "Sorry Bro it won't happen again". Anyway we connect. Erik and the kids setup on the beach and start fishing (Danny and I are on the rocks).

Way to go!
Erik always slinging the LC sends his first cast out. BAM! Piggy On!! "Nick", yells Erik. I give him the thumbs up. Pretty soon there's another "Nick!" I'm excited for Erik who goes on to catch even more piggys but I'm thinking I must be cursed today. I'm surrounded by friends hooking fish and I can't even get a measly peck.

Think, think, think
Erik cast's straight to the left of the boiler rock and nails 'em. I have been trying all over the area where the piggys were the last couple times. Hmmmmmm... Then I remembered what Ken "Corporal Croaker" and Don "bachiboy" said, "they seem to move around so try another nearby spot". First I change back to my trusty LC Ayu something color. Then I launch an attack near the boiler rock which has been outside of my attack coordinates all morning and... hit, then hookup!!! Riiiight on!!! I land a nice piggy. Good bye black kitty with the speed stripe.

Counterattack
Now that their hideout had been discovered the piggies launch a counter attack. But I've spent the last 1 1/2 hour training so I'm ready for them. After we finally call it, there are 11 piggies that tasted the land (or rock actually). I CPRd some and CRd the rest. Every one was 14" or better and one hit 16". They obviously sent out their most experienced recruits but I was ready for them.

Aftermath
Danny and I met up with Erik, Logan and Jordon on the beach where they were obviously enjoying the beautiful day. It was a lovely sight to see Dad hanging out with his two cute kids fishing and combing the beach (Erik - I showed Noelle and Alexa the pics of you guys. They can't wait to do a joint Daddy-kids fishing adventure with Logan and Jordan). Then we said our goodbyes and left the Allen clan to themselves and the sea lions.

...It Turned out to be a very lovely Day at the beach...

Critics want to know, "is the franchise over or will there be another installment of The Pig Pen?"
Only the famous and talented director of the Pig Pen movies, Steven Pigsburg, knows for sure.

What an amazing day... with the kids having the day off from school, I knew I would have to watch them for the day. What better place to spend the day with the kids than the beach? Who cares if we had to get up at 6am on a day off? HAHAHA. We packed up the Tahoe and got to the AO right at 7am. As Nick said... we waited around for 30 minutes because I couldn't find Nick. After a couple texts accusing him of oversleeping, I finally phoned him and found out he had been fishing for awhile.
We parked, and immediately setup "camp" before daddy headed out to the shore.

I threw my LC and immediately hooked up on a (pretty large) BSP... maybe 13-14". Skunk is off, always a good feeling. A few casts later and I hook up again... this time I hand the pole to my son Logan to reel him in.

He lands another large BSP... quick CPR and it's released. Then about 30 minutes later, I hook up again... this time the pole goes to my daughter Jordyn. She slowly but surely reels it in. We get it all the way up to the sand, but as I go to grab it, it unbuttons and it falls to the sand. Before I can pick it up, a wave comes and sweeps it back into the abyss. Jordyn is bummed, but it's still a catch in my book.

The bite starts to die off and the kids are itching to fish on their own. I know that at this time, my fishing day is over. I got in my 2 solid hours... today is all about the kids. I fish plenty on my own. I rig up the kids' poles and set them up for catching some dinks. Like I said, the bite had slowed down... but they were still out there. Logan hooked onto one and unfortunately, it came off before he could land it. Jordyn then hooked up on one... same result. Then Logan finally got another hookup... this mighty fighter he landed.

By this time, Jordyn was more or less over the whole surf fishing thing. She was more interested in playing in the sand and stacking rocks.

Logan pushed on for about 30 more minutes before bird nesting both poles and finally asking if he could join his sister. I took this as my cue to grab my gear and try to land some more fish. I threw a c-rig with large sand crabs for about an hour and didn't get one nibble. I decided to put the gear away, pack up the truck and spend the next 2 hours playing in the sand and rocks (it was extreme low tide) with my kids. We caught sand crabs, green sidewinder crabs and even found what appeared to be gold dust in the sand. It was a fantastic day...

This is just the beginning! I see this as being a three-trilogy anthology! Can't wait to read PP7, 8 and 9!
