Cabela's DepthMaster® II Linecounter Trolling Reels on Sale for $29.99 (http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Fishing-Reels/Trolling-Reels|/pc/104793480/c/104760180/sc/104652180/Cabelas-DepthMaster-II-Linecounter-Trolling-Reels/1159890.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ftrol ling-reels%2F_%2FN-1100307%2FNs-MIN_SALE_PRICE%3FWTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat104793480% 253Bcat104760180%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat104793480%3Bcat104760180%3Bcat1 04652180)
I've had one of these since 1997 or so. It lasted a long time. I recently rebuilt it. The only change that I'd recommend is carbon fiber drag washers.

There made for lead core too. I have a few shimano reels that are very good and not cheep.

Last week Cabellas had a rod reel combo for sale for 50 bucks that I couldn't pass up. Bought 2 setups for 110 total with shipping. Ty Brian for the link. Sweet setup for $ with a nice soft tip. I got a 30 reel and would recommend same.

Good luck.

I like big drags. When I'm trolling and I'm hung up, sometimes I go a long way before I can turn back. That's when you need the big drag to keep from burning it up. 30 size is what I have.

Sure you can use leadcore but you don't really need a linecounter with leadcore. The leadcore has color changes every 10 yards.

I just bought carbon fiber drag washers sets from here (http://stores.tunasreeltroubles.com/-strse-DRAGMASTERS-CARBON-FIBER-DRAG-WASHER-UPGRADES/Categories.bok). I installed one last night and it's really smooth. According to this website the 15 and 20 size have the same drag.

can't beat the price for this trolling reel...

but was wondering about the Shimano Tekota line-counter reels...

which size would be good for trolling? the 300? 500? 600?

and do you guys prefer using just straight 20 or 25# mono while trolling? or maybe 50-65# braid tied straight to your rig?

thanks,

dk

These Cabela's DMMs are made by Okuma. I used Okuma Magda parts to rebuild mine. I had to change some extra stuff to get it done.

I don't know about the Shimanos.

I troll mostly U-rigs and I use 80 lb braid. U know, finesse fishing!
