I went fishing at one of the local lake. Anyways the three biggest ones had tag/clips on their gill plate. Just wondering what it is since I've haven't seen it before or just never noticed it before.

Yes they did put some big ones in a few different waters. That's just a program they have to let you know it's a DFW fish, probably brood stock. We've been collecting them for years kind of like a competition to see how many you can get. Clip um off and put them on a carabiner.

Shhhhh quite a few of those have been stocked recently.

What lake was that if you don't mind saying. Also yes those are DFG broodstock. I have a whole jar full of them tags.

"Broodstock" identification. Caught some here and there up in the Sierra's but never down here in southern Ca. Good catch you have there...my guess its somewhere in the 3-5 lb range.

Just about every lake around is receiving good plants of large fish including DFW fed lakes. Pick one.
