As most of you remember Lake Perris closed Tuesday and WEdnesday during the winter and early spring months the last couple of years. Well according ot the young gal at the tag station that is ancient history now and Perris will indeed be open seven days a week all year. She also said work on the dam has began and if you look behind the dam on Ramona Expressway you will see several pieces of heavy equipment stationed and ready to plow away.

Of course, the next employee I ask may have something entirely different to say next time I go.

Applies to Silverwood as well. Although I did enjoy the hike in and having the lake basically to myself without rangers there. The gill nets I found were always full of fish.

Yes the gill nets at Perris are always full. The good news is we have a park ranger that cares and is watching for Culprits now.

Great news. You guys that are there on Saturdays and Wednesdays be sure to motor around every once in a while and chase the ducks off the lake and over to San Jacinto Wildlife Area. We'll appreciate it.

Tom, we'd love to. We used to be able to hunt there but, what was it, like 6 years ago or something like that, when they drew down the lake to work on the dam they canceled the hunting program using that as the excuse. I doubt they'll ever reinstate it.

I was talking to the fish and game guy three years ago and he told me the only reason the hunt was stopped was because the lake was low and boater safety was first and that as soon as the lake is filled again the Hunt would be back.
so maybe three years from now The Duck hunting will be back
Right now the mallards and geese have a Safe Haven.
Well if you can consider it safe for a duck when Jets skis and Bass boats are almost all going over 50 mph never following the speed limit....while we are tubing we have seen one get hit by jetskis
And some of the Bass Boaters think it is funny to Try and run them down good thing a bass boat does not handle like a jet ski.....LOL
