This bucket guy sees me catch the Halibut and comes over...
Shows me what he had in his bucket and offered me a trade.
I look in the bucket and saw the biggest friggin' Cabezon I've ever seen in my life. :EyePop:
24 inches and FAT. He caught this Cabbie on a big chunk of Squid.
I said, okay, that's cool... Surf Bartering, 24" Cabbie for a 24" Hali, kinda cool, lol.
Let's see how the Iron Chef will prepare this Blue Slurpee eating bottom feeder, haha

Latest update... the next production run for the S.W.A.T. Surf Series LC will be in March of 2014.
The pattern will be produced with the "MS" Missing Scales effect and have new packaging.
They also asked me to submit at least another 5-6 lures for the Series.
Be patient everybody... it WILL BE worth the wait! :Big Grin:

DAMN that is quite the haul of one session! Nice going chief. I wish I was down this way, especially after the session I had today.:Rolls Eyes: Way to pad your legal count and I think the trade for the cabbie was a good call...a little variety that you don't always have the opportunity to sample. I'm sure the Iron Chef will make something outta this world with it.

Congrats on another heck of a successful mission!

Dang Commander! You know you are blessed when instead of following the fish, the fish follow you! Great session! You know, I was thinking about retiring my S.W.A.T. Lc after my two calicos but I think I'm gonna try for some more fishies before I do! I heard that cabezon is good eating and at 24 inches, you got at least 2 big meals coming your way! Always fun reads and amazing pics! Thanks sir! Can't wait for the Christmas party!

Arthur,

It's hard to explain but the solo sessions in the surf are some of the best. The sound of the surf, the view of gray light turning into light and the anticipation of a first out of the surf or a new personal best, it doesn't get too much better.

Thanks for the update sunday morning. I could just tell from the fish count you had a good start to the day. I'll see you soon Buddy. :Thumbs Up:

Now that is a stellar day in the surf! Congrats on a great variety of catches.
Nice little fish trade you made to mix up the Iron Chef's menu options!
Sometimes solo fishing trips are just what you need to clear your head and
relax! Thanks for the report and pics.

Thanks Don, unfortunately, suf fishing will be getting tougher as Winter approach... but we still have those lovable Perch!
I'm sure I'll see you before the S.W.A.T, Xmas party.
As for the Cabbie dish... it was nothing special. It was my sister's birthday and we had a community seafood fry at my parents house last Friday.
Tasted like any other Rockfish to me...

Just change the hooks and keep throwing that S.W.A.T. LC Corporal.
The Cabazon was pretty good (see pic above). She didn't make an elaborate dish out of it or anything, just a community fish fry.
See you soon, I'm sure before the Xmas party. :Big Grin:

That was a monster Cabbie... I'm sure there are bigger ones caught on a boat, but that's the biggest one I've seen caught from the surf.
Keep up the good work out there Erik.

Like I said many times Frank, I'm the luckiest surf fisherman alive... :Envious:

I found out from one of the S.W.A.T. members that trading fish is illegal. So the trade I made for the Cabezon for my Halibut is a no, no. :Embarrassed:
You can say you "gave" your fish to the other guy and in return, he "gave" you his fish... But you can't trade or barter your catch. Good to know... I'm still learning... :Envious:

Well, the Iron Chef didn't do anything elaborate with the Cabezon. It was my sister's birthday last Friday and we brought it over there for a community stir fry party.
Turned out pretty good... :Big Grin:
