Ok so I know this is cheating, but my wife got a job offer back east so I am trying to get all the CA style fishing in I can before we have to leave
in November :(
Headed out with a buddy out of LB marina on a 1/2 day
They had us fishing huge live baits (4-6" macks) for ling cod on drifts for the first 1.5 hours to no avail and a ton of tangles even though we only had 15 guys on the boat, so we switched gears to squid and shrimp and targeted rockfish with much more success.
I wasn't having great luck but my buddy got into 5 nice Reds, then at the last spot we did three drifts and I made sure my bait hit the bottom asap because the current was pulling a 10oz weight like it was nothing and darned if I didn't catch a new species (whitefish) 3/3 on each drift!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok back to surf fishing this week!
